My dog has been bleeding for about 3 weeks and it has only been 4 months since her last one, I have been told it should only be once a year or every 6 months at the most. If you are going to get her spayed, make sure you work it out carefully, because it is not good if they are spayed when they are due to have a season. I think the amount of days varies on the size of the dog too. My jack russell only bled for a short time, compared to my greyhound. Probably best to read up on the specific breed too. Get some old sheets, good luck :)

Every ***** is an individual.
On AVERAGE, the whole season lasts between 3-4 weeks.
Usually the bleeding will be deep red for about 2 weeks, then lighten colour to a straw colour. (this would be the most dangerous time and when she is willing to mate, so take care at this time!)
However, some bitches will bleed a deep red colour through the 3-4 weeks, some will be very light and may have a short season.
May I recommend the book:
'The book of the *****' (available from Amazon or Tesco online).
Even if you do not want to ever breed, it is really useful to understand how her body works and what health problems she may be susceptible too.
Best wishes

A dog is in heat for three weeks. She normally bleeds 5 to 7 days during the first week and than sometimes a little spotting during the next 5 to 7 days. But after 5 to 7 days after she has started it should pretty much stop!

Choose your stud dog ahead of time. Let the stud dog owner know when you expect your ***** to come in season. They'll let you know about any requirements they have.
You should choose a backup as well, just in case your first choice isn't available
Have your ***** examined by a veterinarian to ensure she is healthy. Have a brucellosis test done as well.
As soon as you see first signs of your ***** being in season, contact the stud dog owner. If your stud dog is out-of-the-area, you'll want to discuss shipping arrangements at this time so that you'll be able to make all the necessary arrangements.
If this is your *****'s first breeding, you'll want to know when she's ready to be bred. See your veterinarian about smears and/or progesterone testing. This will help you pinpoint the right time to get your ***** to the stud dog. This will typically be between days 10 and 15 but could be much earlier or later.
You'll also want to schedule a brucellosis test so that the results will be current for the stud dog owner.
When the ***** is ready
Contact the stud dog owner and let them know when and how the ***** will be arriving.
If you are shipping the *****, the stud dog owner will pick the dog up at the airport and will need all the information. You should send all the paperwork with the *****. You can just tape an envelope to the crate.
If you are delivering the dog yourself, get good directions and bring all your paperwork.
When the ***** comes home
Your ***** will stay with the stud dog owner for a week or two.
When your ***** comes home, you should get some paperwork with her from the stud dog owner, including a contract, copies of the stud dog's health clearances, the stud dog's pedigree, and information on when the ***** was bred.

Hi my Bull Terrier ***** is in her 4th week of her 1st season she was very light at first and then bled heavily in the second and third week now she has gone very light again so hopefully she is coming out. My 8 week old pup is even trying to have a go horny bugger and shes letting him dirty cow. But I think it's usually 3-4 weeks depends though with the 1st season.

My dog was on heat for about 4 weeks, and she bled for 8 days. It was very inconsiderate of her because we had her spaying booked and we got banned from training classes!

Sigh...
Get her spayed. Get a cheap spay certificate from http://www.friendsofanimals.org that you can use at your local vet....
Please don't breed her...
