I dont' believe in cutting a live tree down. I wondered if other Pagans, had a fake tree as well. I have also thought of decorating a tree in my yard to celebrate the Goddess, without harming a tree.

I completely understand your desire not to cut a tree down or have a cut one in the house, but really, that *is* the tradition. By bringing an evergreen tree into your home, you are bringing that promise of renewed life into proximity with your family and friends (all who enter your home while the tree is there).

But I think the idea of decorating a tree in your yard is GREAT - and it would serve the same purpose; a close and lovely reminder of the promise of Spring and light and life returning.

Some cities have a spacial program for tree chipping, BTW; if you want to have a cut tree in your home you can check around for companies that don't just put the tree into landfill.

Personally, we use up the tree after the Yule season is over - the trunk goes to make a Yule log (for next year, or for friends), and the rest is allowed to dry out for ceremonial fires later in the year. I very much like the symbolism of carrying that Yule energy over into other celebrations like Imbolg or Ostara.

Yule is the promise, and Imbolg is the fulfillment of that promise, so burning wood from your Yule tree ties them together.

I put up a fake tree every year for Yule, but mostly because the cats would have a hay day with a real one. I decorate it with dragons, gargoyles, and whimsical stuff mostly. Most of which I find scattered across the house. (lol! Darn cats!) I wish I had a tree in my yard I could decorate. A nice, big Blue Spruce... Maybe I'll plant one this coming spring and in about 5+ years I could decorate it at Yule.

I have a 6' Norfolk Island Pine tree (that was like 2' tall when I got it) that acts as my living tree. We also have an artificial one. At my mom's we get a live, cut tree, which is then mulched by a municipal program after the holidays so it is returned to to the earth.

I've got a whole herd of them! By the Goddess's buttocks they grow a foot or two each year my Dear; You're more than welcome to come on down to pick out a live one that You conect with. I like the Cyrpus pines myself, they remind me of the Spirit in the Pine!

Well...I'm not really sure how you "keep" a tree...but yes, we put a tree up every year.
