I have never kept this tradition, but I was wondering how many people (at least those with a fire place do keep it.)

We don't have a fireplace, but we do keep the traiditon. From last year's tree, we take a nice chunk of the thickest part of the trunk and drill holes in it to fit candles. We burn those rather than the log itself.

We don't let them burn all night, though - leaving candles burning while you sleep isn't al that good an idea.

Some of our Pagan friends keep an outside bonfire going all night, and we plan to do that sometime in the future; gather a group and go up to the local mountains and keep vigil aroud the bonfire.

Unfortunately, I have no fireplace but if I had, I would definitely keep this tradition!

Have a wonderful Yule, and

Blessed Be.

Not really. But the fire that we start, put out and then relight on Samhain is very important to us. Yule isn't one of our holidays.
