This happened to me from the age of 3 - 14, from my step dad whom I no longer see. I need some genuine advice please. What happens if I go to the police?

GO to the police. no there is no statute of limitations on child abuse. if you dont go you it will eat at you for the rest of you life and you will not be able to be completely happy. also go to counsoling. it really does help and you will be able to move on.

When you need some "genuine advice" you don't come here for it! Your revelation is a serious one. But we don't even know if you are a male or female, your age, whether you have a mother, whether anyone knows about this besides the perpetrator and yourself. Before you talk with the police, depending on how old you are, it may be well to tell a trusted adult; in fact, it might be a good idea to take that person with you when you decide to talk with the police. Otherwise you also have the option of talking with a family counselor who can better advise you as to what steps to take.

In Canada there is no statute of limitations on these kinds of things and most police service have people trained in historical sexual assault. If you go to the police you will be interviewed and if there is enough evidence they will lay charges. You may have to go to court to testify. You also need to speak to a sexual assault crisis worker, they will be able to help you make a decision about wether you want to do this or not. Either way they will help you move on. I think that people who come forward about these things are very brave, and may save another child from the same thing. Good Luck.

Its never to late to report sexual abuse. If you go to the police they will have you write a statement as to what happen.
The next thing that will happen is they will start an investigation, and if your story can be proven, then your step father would be charge. Some time later the matter would go to court.

If you report it, there's probably nothing they can do now since I don't know how old you are. BUT, it will be recorded if he should do it again. Therefore, should he continue to do this, the police have a record of it. I suggest you go to the police. You may not be able to convict him of what he did to you, but on the up side, if he should do it again, it's been recorded that's he done it in the past. You may be saving someone else from the same thing that you went through. Good Luck!!!

the question is can you prove it, if he has no prior history of the act or there is no reports of him sexually abusing you are going to have a hard time convincing a judge to try this case. The only reason Catholic priests are being tried because it was reported and documented and the dumbass justice system allowed the church to handle the matter internally and all they did was move the priest to another community so they could molest other kids.

First let me start by saying that I am very sorry for your misfortune. I too am a survivor of sexual abuse of a parent. In my opinion I believe you have every right to bring this person to justice and have him dealt with to the full extent of the law. I also believe that is never too late for retribution. As far as evidence...the police will have to investigate the allegations...do what is in your heart that is the only way to start the healing process...it is going to be a battle for you though...however, not doing anything could be more destructive for you...the truth is the only way out...make him take the onus for his wrong doings!
good luck...and for what it is worth.....I believe you.

it's always difficult to what goes threw a persons head when they finally come to terms that they have been sexually abused by someone.i understand that struggle cuz i am a Survivor of it aswell.i aslo had the same question after 10yrs of hiding the secret from my family.my answer is it is Never too late to report this crime but as there was alot of time that had past for me my statement was hard to prove.i blamed myself & got very upset that nothing culd be done about it.it took alot of time but i came to realize as i went threw councilling that if i had reported them right away mayb it wuld have changed things but what had happened to me for 4yrs wuld have still happend.U CAN'T BLAME URSELF!!!!then they win.sothe choice is a personal one & only u can decide if ur ready for that & if ur strong enough to handle all the stuff that will follow.I am 31yrs old & hae 3kids now & it still is hard but i am also greatful everyday cuz i lived threw it & am a stronger person for it & u will be too.good luck & take care of urself.

No it is never too late. You will be questioned and so will he. If you want to go thru with this, be strong and be totally honest and upfront about everything. Have you talked to any of your family members about this? You will need a support system.
Peace and Blessings

Almost every crime as a time limit, as outlined in the Statue of Limitations, with the exception of murder and treason (I believe.) Child abouse may or may not. You can always contact a lawyer and ask.
