There is no other threat in the Welterweight division besides GSP.
People would not be surprised if Matt won.
Everyone knows Matt would beat Matt Serra.
The pay per view money would be huge to see the re-match between Hughes and GSP.
Dana is thinking about the pay per view money and sold out ticket sales. Think of the hype they would put out for this fight.
Matt knows he would stand to make alot of money if he lost his title and came back for the re-match.
Matt knows he needs to make as money as he can before retiring (whenever that would be). Matt has a family to think about and he knows the money is more important than having another loss on his record. Matt also knows he will get his belt back anyways.

I don't believe GSP is in on it. I believe they kept this information from GSP purposely so that his response to winning the title would be genuine.

I don't believe the UFC is fixed, but I do believe this fight was. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think so.

kb1, thats what I'm saying. Matt should not have been out classed like that. That's why I think Matt took the dive. Matt is a much better fighter than that poor perfomance he put on in that fight. That's why I think the fix was in. GSP is a good fighter but not THAT good to just pound out the warrior that is Matt Hughes.

Joe B, maybe that's what they want you to think.

lol You guys think you know what you are talking about but as usual, some people just can't read between the lines. People just can't grasp the possibility that greed can take over and rob the public of what the public deserves.
I don't think the UFC is fixed in anyway other than this fight.
I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was right. This fight just didn't seem right to me.

Everyone with their conspiracy theories...
Get over it. GSP did what most of us knoew was going to happen. BJ Penn did it to Matt too in the first 2 rounds GSP just finished the job. Why can't you just accept that Matt Hughes lost. This is becoming like a WWE forum now.

i am a huge matt hughes fan. he is my idol. i want to be like him when i grow up (i'm 25 by the way). i don't think it was anything political like that. i think matt just underestimated gsp and after the fight with penn thought he was unbeatable. keep in mind that gsp beat penn too. gsp just wanted it more than hughes did apparently and hughes didn't think it would be as hard as it was. gsp knew it wouldn't be easy, so he trained his a$$ off and gave it everything he had in the ring. why else would hughes have fought like that. the fight didn't even go to the ground. this is matt freakin hughes we're talking about. the man that has never knocked someone out. why would he even think to stay on his feet against gsp? if he wanted to throw the fight, he would have at least taken it to the ground once. gsp landed some solid hits and after the first round i was worried. it could have been fixed but i don't think hughes would do that. he's not in it for the money or fame. he has more sportsmanship than anyone else who has ever stepped in the octagon.

While it is true that the UFC will stack fights (set them up to try to get the desired result; ie Ice Man vs. Couture) I don't think they would make someone take a dive. If you watched the fight you can see that it was well fought but Matt was jsut outmatched. GSP is amazingly fast and there are no real contenders against him at the moment. The fight was true and I don't thinkit turned out how they wnated it to.

They tried to put off that fight by having Matt fight Royce but Matt won, which I don't think they were expecting. I think they were looking for a rematch but they would have preffered it the otehr way round. It almosst seems like they did not want the belt coming to Canada.

I know that it is hard to see your favorite fighter get handled like that, but your basis for this argument is way off. You argue that Hughes took a dive for money. One, the winner gets paid more. Two, he will lose endorsement deals if he doesn't get his title back. Three, if he is caught taking a dive to profit from betting, he would lose his license to fight. If Matt Hughes would have won, he could have been paid a lot more by moving over to Pride, starting up his own school or reaching out for more endorsements. If Matt Hughes almost lost to BJ Penn, how do you justify this as a dive? He is also one of the most competitive fighters in the game. They don't fight for money, they fight to be the best, and he lost to the best.

Matt Hughes was making a lot a money before he lost to GSP. GSP was just better than Hughes, Matt was too slow and relied on his wrestling skills, but that didnt work against GSP. Matt barely beat BJ Penn, but GSP was hungry and quicker.

Not sure wether it was a fix but ive been a fan of Matt for a long time.
I think Matt lost the fight before he stepped into the octagon he was just not himself, a fighter who has been at the top for so long should not be made to look so out classed unless he had already given up.

That said GSP was awesome Matt would have to be in top form to beat him but i still think he would in a rematch
