We all know the verse, but where in the Bible does it say "Do not commit Adultry? Is it in the Old Testament? And why can we not do it?

I'm a believer, I'm just lookin' for answers.

Exodus 20:14
"You shall not commit adultery.

Deuteronomy 5:18
"You shall not commit adultery.

-We cannot do this because it is sin- it is against God. When you are married you are to be bound to one another. Holy Matrimony. This makes perfect sense. Why would someone get married just to commit adultery? Of course that would be wrong! God says in the Bible:

Mark 10:7
'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,

Ephesians 5:31
"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."

-This is also stated in Genesis.

yes it is the Old Testement.

why can't you do it. because anyone that does this sins against himself. you are not hurting anyone but yourself. when you sleep with someone you become one with them and then when things don't work out (and they likely won't unless you have more of a commitment to each other like marriage vows) then you will feel a horrible pain inside you that feels like tearing. and it is tearing because you had become one. then it is harder to bond with the next person. you will end up bitter and feeling empty inside. everytime you have casual sex you are giving a piece of yourself away that you will never get back and you will feel empty inside.

whores usually have a hard time with affection later in life when they get off the street. they don't seem to be able to feel emotions the same way other people do. they are emotionallly dead. that is what will happen to you.

Paul says it's better to marry than to burn with lust. or something like that. but also remember it's better to alone than miserable with someone that you have just settled for.

the 10 commandments .. Exodus 20:12

sin has a "ripple" effect. like throwing a stone in a lake.. you see the ripples come back and touch the shore. sin does this to those around us. no one sins and have it only effect themselves. it touches the life's of our family, friends, children...
a person on drugs usually say "I am only hurting myself" but are they? I see parents and kids of drug abusers daily that are hurting because of one person's sin.
adultery is no different, how many homes have you seen busted because of unfaithfulness? God is telling us to keep our eyes on the goal by following him with our morals and families intact.

Read Romans 2:14-29

These Scriptures tell us that God has written the law in our hearts.

I think it is in Leviticus, and I think the scripture says something like, "If a woman is found sleeping with another man that is not her husband, both her and the man are to be put to death"
