If you're buying from an individual, it should not run more than what it cost for the initial rounds of shots and deworming.
If it comes from a vet or animal shelter, it will be higher because they almost always spay/neuter them also, as well as give them a lot of additional shots that most owners consider optional and decline.
Of course, if it's a special purebred, then the sky's the limit.
In general, for a kitten, less than 4 months, $50 to $75 tops.
For a cat 6 months or older, $90 to $125.
Purebreds from anywhere: $200 to $300 and up.

Like people say, it depends a lot on what type of cat it is. If it's a common housecat, I would suggest adopting one from a shelter instead of buying one (unless the current owner is an friend or acquaintance of yours and you want to help them).
If it's a purebred cat, it depends on the breed (mind you, even if the owner says it's a purebred cat, it unfortunately only counts as a housecat unless you have a pedigree). Our kitten is a Cornish Rex, and over here they cost between $625-750 (approximate currency conversion). British Shorthair is, I think, the least expensive purebred cat, and others, like the hairless Sphynx, tend to cost up to $1875-2000.

If you are looking for a purebred kiten, then i have no idea, but if you just want a housecat to be your pet, please look into shelter to adopt a kitten, there has been a major influx in the amounts of cats/kittens coming into shelters lately. Adoption fees range but most are around 100 - 125 dollars, and when you get your kitty, he/she will be up to date on all vaccines and spayed/neutered. also try such resources as petfinder.com. they have very specific details about the animals such as which are personally not good with chelidren/other animals.

I paid 25 for my cat I am sure I could have got a cat for free, but some people charge a small fee because they want to be sure that whoever is taking the cat can afford it. If its not a purebreed and not fixed dont pay more then 30 bucks.

Why pay for a kitten when there are so many kittens in animal shelters who need good homes. Why don't you go to one and see for yourself the reward for adopting one who simply wants to have a home and someone to care for him.

If you get one from a shelter...which you should....then expect to pay about $70-$90.....as a donation to help keep the shelter running. Sometimes the shelter will give you discount coupons for a vet in the area, and free samples of food, etc. to get you started.

Depends on hwere you get it from. The pound near me is like 60 to 80 bucks. The same to adopt from pet stores. Its best to go this route because they have been vet checked and are up to date on their shots...not to mention already being fixed.
If you want a free one check the local paper or craigslist.com

Please Please Please....do not buy a kitten.
Get one from an animal rescue group in your area.
If you do not and a kitten or cat is not adopted then it will be euthanized :( :( :(
And ..WHEN you find kitten you might as well adopt a litter mate also....
So the kitten is not lonely...unless of course you are able to spend time with cat.
But PLEASE ....DO NOT BUY A CAT!!!!
Note: thumbs down from cat breeder?
