I was stopped behind a road accident, and had a turning to my right, i could have used in order to go the other way. So my mate got out and "politely" asked the nearest officer if it was worth our while waiting or making use of the turning. He was told 'very rudely' to get back in the car as the traffic was about to move on, as i drove off, i raised my hand to gesture our thanks, even though we were rudely treated, and the officer shouted " Dont stop, keep moving" in a loud , and once again rude manner.

Is there really any need for such arrogance from people who are supposed to be serving us. This officer seemed to think he was better than us, because of his job. Well no-one who is basicly working class like the rest of us, is any better than us, what ever there job may be. So why are some officers so power mad and rude???

Miraclehand,, im 33 and there isnt a chip on my shoulder. The officer was at least 100 yards from the accident, and there was no danger to anyone. My 62 year old friend, thats 62, does not put people in danger, nor does he expect to be rudely spoken to by a public servant, now, how old are you? and about that chip!!!

Supersexy,,,Before writing this q, i talked it over with a pal of mine(not the victim of rudeness) a police officer with 11 years to his name, he said there were unfortunately pc's who will never know how to talk to the public, and who DO think there better than the rest of us, you sound a little like the traffic cop, and i didnt say you were all like it, so climb down from that pedestal you've created for yourself,

I think its up to the department to make sure that their officers are not rude to the public. I hate to say this but I think that the power of the job goes to some officers head. I feel that some need more training in public relations. An officer can remain calm and still be forceful if he has to.

You make a very good point, if our police are unapproachable then they cease to be of any use to the public who pay there wages, and for the most part give them the respect which allows them to do there job. I work with some police and most, fortunately aren't on a power trip. It is a sad state of affairs when a simple and polite question gets such a rude response.

The same could be said of your question I note that a couple of the answers ( Not difficult to see who they are), clearly didn't read your entire question.

Just put up with the un-educated while the rest of us have an intelligent debate

Have just read the response from supersexy who claims to be a WPC, if her rude response is anything to go by then your point has just been well-proven, it seems we are not entitled to breath the same air has her. does she not realise she is a public servant not an emissary from god...,,,

It relies upon on the police officials. I have dealt with some good ones, yet I have also dealt with ones that made me loose an excellent type of understand for officials, I nevertheless understand the regulation basically no longer those holding it. at the same time as it takes 2 hours to ensue to a rape scene and the perp did not leave till 20 minutes after the first 911 call there is not any excuse for no longer catching the guy. notwithstanding, I had awaken to a strive against concerning some little ones who jumped my again fence and the police officials were there pronto. There are a many police officials deserving of honors yet many corrupt ones to boot. I wish there replaced right into a fashion to split them.

I think the officer you were dealing with was under pressure. If an accident happened because he was talking to you guys, he would be responsible and have to deal with it.

There are nasty police officers who abuse their power, no question about that. You meet some good officers that are kind and friendly, but not many.

I also hate the way some police officers say they avoid certain areas, what's the point in having a police force if they're cowards? The criminals must be laughing their heads off when they hear this, they're NOT afraid to commit any type of crime.

I had exactly the same scenario, except where the traffic was stopped, I lived. I experienced the same arrogance.

But I was not as polite as you. In fact I was very out of character and gave him the bird. Was worried for days after I was going to be arrested, but think I made my point.

I think some officers get off on the power of the job and lose sight of why they are there in the first place.

They want us to help them, but unfortunately if you are innocent in this country you have no basic human rights. The culprits seem to have all the rights.

I just saw your question and quite frankly it makes me sick. I am a WPC myself and we do quite enough without being made out to be power mad. Road accidents for us can be a real nightmare. Not only are we more than likely first to the scene we have a number of things to do and dealing with rubberneckers and members of the public who think they have some sort of God given right to know exactly what is going on causes us no end of problems. Were you mistreated? No. Your friend got out of as car when traffic was about to move and by that action could have caused impedence of traffic. I don't know the exact situation but I know your type, and your casting slurs on us is something we have to put up with every day. What were you wanting from him? A cheery wave? We have a job to do, we are not power mad and rude and we do it efficiently. The job comes first, pleasantries second.

What you got was a standard response, to the situation. Designed to get the response it got, your friend got back in the car and you moved on. For the police officer, it's a way to disassociate themselves from any feelings on the subject. As for the really rude ones, the old phrase, absolute power, corrupts absolutely, generally applies.

Why is everyone so upset over this question or comment? Get a grip, and you know as well as I do, that there are good cops and bad cops. If people don't stop their lives for a few seconds to protest than we are all going to get what we didn't want. Time to live in a cave!

Well, there will always be arrogant people out there, in any job. Just as there will be nice polite people as well.

So, you met a rude person. They are everywhere.

Maybe his wife left him recently? Or his son had to go to drug rehab?

You just don't know the stories behind the actions.

Take it with a grain of salt, know there are good officers out there, and continue smiling and being polite. The world needs more of you!
