ROTC can help teach disclpine, self-reliance, teamwork, and a host of other skills that are important to people both young and old. It is provided in a structured environment based on one of the four branches of the Armed Forces. You learn to take care of yourself and your gear, you learn how to inspect and be inspected, and how to prepare your appearance (tell me that one isn't important in the business world!).

ROTC does not mean that you are a war-monger-in-training. Of the 18 seniors that participated in ROTC with me, exactly 3 of us (myself included) joined the military.

It would teach good discipline for one thing and make better responsible people for another. I only wish they would have had High School ROTC when I went to school. I would have jumped at the chance without a blink of an eye.

I'm guessing your talking about High school JROTC? It teaches selfconfidence, physical fitness, teambuilding, leadership, responsibility, honor, personal courage. Just to name a few.
