I own several dogs and have lots of experience with the animal however, I am not a vet. I was a nurse before my illness but, I dont even try to diagnose my own dogs. I know it can be expensive but, please people....You claim to love these animals yet you place their well being in the opinions of others on line?? Why is this page anything other than a way to talk about our dogs? Shouldnt these questions be more about the discussions we had with our vets after they have been seen?

Look...I too have done my best to help those I feel have legitimate questions! But, I go back later to review and see the Best Answer picked is the stupidest answer on the page. Most (Not All) take advice that is what they want to hear not whats right. I get so angry when I see " Oh Fluffy has something bloody sticking out of her Butt and the best answer chosen is..."I use Platex tampons maybe Fluffy will like them too?" I truley want to pass on my experience and perspective to assist anyone truly searching for help. Sometimes the best thing for us is not what we want to hear. Grow up!

You've been on here long enough to be as annoyed as well, have you? LOL!

There are *some* people on here who are open to learning. But many just want someone to agree with what they already believe.

The best answer thing means little to nothing, much of the time it is just the person who agreed with the questioner, whether it is right or not. But sometimes, the person actually learned something!

This is a Q & A forum not a discussion forum for one. For two, there really are idiots out there that don't know when to take their pets to the vet same as their are parents that shouldn't have kids because they don't know how to take care of them. I have noticed that there are a lot of questions that are just asking for advice or it is people looking for people who have been in the same situation. I think that some of the questions on here are looking for someone to tell them that taking their pet to the vet is the right thing to do so they feel they aren't overreacting. However, I do agree that some should have already went to the vet instead of taking the time to post a question and wait for the answer.

LOL I advise purely.......LOL! thanks for the snort! Your common sense is so incorrect it really is fairly glaring you do not have a clue what you're speaking about. sensible, you could purchase a breed that became initially better to be a secure practices canines, yet with out ideal preparation, if the canines IS vulnerable, you've a free cannon that you do not comprehend the thanks to administration, and various of reliable proceedings. mostly, what you receives is a canines who became no longer bred to artwork in this venue, so that you eventually end up with both a whimp, or a risky animal, because you probably did no longer something to coach it and save its drives lower than administration. Your remark about having to restrain your canines from doing further damage is exactly my element. i'd have taken out a gun and shot your badly bred ill educated canines contained in the top, and does no longer were charged for that. If i became ever fascinated in possessing a secure practices breed (and which will be by no ability, as my handgun works so a lot extra useful), i'd actually come across a breeder who trains reliable temperament and trains the canines to attempt this interest, so i will relax guaranteed that there'll be no "mistakes", like killing my husband if he comes abode too late......

I know exactly what you're saying...I can't believe my eyes with some of the questions on here. So many questions about dogs eating rat poison, and they come on here before taking their dog to the vet?!! It's insane. Just goes to show why there are so many abused and euthanized dogs in the world...because of owners that suck at life.

I totally agree! Vets can be costly, but a PHONE CALL to a vet costs next to nothing. I've called my vet many times with questions, and I work there. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. You don't know whose opinions you are getting here. There are some truly caring knowledgeable people. Then there are those who think they are helping but are giving out dangerous advice. Then there are those who are just plain mean.

You take a big chance here. It's a great forum. However, it's equivalent to going down to Wal-mart and asking opinions on your dog's health. You don't know who you're taking to or what their experience is with animals.

I agree. I can see behavior problems discussed here but I absolutely cannot stand when people post questions such as, "My dog ingested poison, it's eyes are rolling in the back of his head, he is drooling and having seizures, What should I do ??"

And then when they post a similar question 20 minutes later and you know they haven't gone to the vet.

Unfortunately some of the people that post questions such as these are just idiots looking for attention and they make up the situation.

I have worked with vets, rescues groups and in zoos. I can treat most simple things. I Even give my dogs their shots. Most people do not have this kind of back round so they should go to a vet. I have told people here what I think is wrong and what to ask a vet. Like it or not vets can be dishonest and treat dogs for things they need not to. Asking questions here can help people know what to ask and what to look out for.

One when my dog was sick I knew what was wrong with her... Went to the vet and told them what I though and they found out that What I had said was wrong with her was right. I went to a technical campus to learn this stuff ok,, I think I know what I am doing. If I wont give the same advice to my family than I am not going to give it anywhere else. When my guinea pigs teeth where broken and I suggested that the guinea pig had been abused while I was away for three days the vet said it doesnt appear to have been abuse till she looked at the teeth. Someone had thrown my guinea from her cage to either the floor or table, and I was pissed.. The point is if you know what you are doing than it is a lot cheaper to diagnose the animal yourself and check with the vet saying i think this is what is wrong with her (all my animals are female)

Some dogs have breed specific conditions that a new owner may not know. We read often about chihuahuas who reverse snort. The new owner is alarmed. But our answers assure the person that it's normal for that breed to do that. With only a few exceptions, people who respond in this category know their limitations and recommend a vet visit when the situation warrants. Please don't be too upset about it.

Just like kids, sometimes you can just tell whats wrong. I do strongly agree that dogs should be taken to vet when ill. My vet knows me very well.
