I've been reading predictions from the Mayans to Nostradamus, and many ancient people seem to think the world will end in 2012.
Anyone else heard about this?

yes, I have heard of these predictions, but no, I do not believe the world will end then.

People have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of time or at least the beginning of Christianity. The bible does not predict the end as far as the actual date, but the New Testament writers believed it would happen in their day or very soon.

Even John opened the book of Revelation with the remark that these things must soon come to pass.

I am only 54 and in my short life I have seen the end of the world dates come and go 4 times just off the top of my head and more that I would have to think about.

Back in 1991 with the first Iraq war people used Nostradamus predictions to claim that 1991 was the year would end.

those predictions are so vague that anyone can interpret them in any way.
as far as the Mayans, some believe they meant the end of the world in 2012 while others believe that it predicts a great change similar to that which destroyed the dinosaurs. There again it is dependent on interpretation.

Nostradamus did NOT agree with the Mayan calendar, which stops at 2012 for some reason-- probably ran out of rock, rather than actually asserting that the world would end then. I expect to be here in 2013. As far as I'm concerned the world will end in 5 billion years, when our aging sun expands to engulf the Earth's orbit, and disintegrates everything.

I've heard about it, but I don't think the world is going to end. I think that there will be a major shift in the world at that time.
The Toltecs (pre-mayans and what their religion is based on) believed in periods of time called "suns". These "suns" represented major shifts in human culture and spirituality. Gnostic Christians believe in a similar thing called Aeons. It is sort of an age that is represented by a particular spiritual force. I believe that 2012 is the beginning of a new one of these.

Yes and I am ready for Christ's return when ever He wants to come for His church. BUT I will go on with my life like I have 50 years or more before He calls me home. Ok think for a minuet 2012 is just 6 years away. According to scripture God has a full week of years to deal with Israel before the end comes.. A week of years is 7 years.. The end can't come till at least 2013 and we will have to see the Man of Sin here within the next 30 days or so to fit that in.... Jim

Those predictionists would be lying, coz no one can predict the end of the world! I do have a feeling though that it be around that time! Only God knows when the time has come!

So what makes you think the ancients knew more back then? You may as well listen to Zager and Evens ("In the Year 2525") and predict based upon that.

I also read it in the bible Code

However I do not believe it will happen because the end will come when not one soul will be thinking about it-

The end will come when we are probably in the best times of our lives not the worst. It will happen when we least expect it

Yes. The world is on the cusp of a big big change. It is in the process of this change right now. I prefer to think it will be a positive change.
