Believe it or not, the problem in taking your special needs child out in public is often the ADULTS. Ignorant people pass on their ignorance to their children. I work at a preschool for children with disabilities, and I hear it all the time from the parents of the children that I work with. They hate to take their child out into the world because they are afraid of the looks and comments that they inevitably get. Unfortunately, people are just uneducated about special needs, and afraid and curious of what they do not know. They start acting bizzare and rude without really realizing it. Other people are just completely clueless, and are just prejudiced. They pass on their hatred of the unknown to the next generation. Hopefully, the people with the generous hearts can show the others how wonderful people with special needs are.

I have a child with Aspergers Syndrome and on the outside he is a normal looking child , no physical handicapps, but with a child with Aspergers it may be hard to deal with them when you go out in public , etc..Not because they misbehave, but because they do certain things, like copy a movie or a game and want to pretend they are that, while walking oblivious through a crowded area, or just not having some common sense when it comes to crossing a street, or whatever the situation might be., He has a mild form of it , but I was always afraid people were going to look at me thnking I dont know how to control him, or something. Because their are so many adults that do automatically do that, and dont think , oh maybe that child has autism, or something else wrong. Most adults just automatically jump to the conclusion that its the parents fault. They are uneducated about so many of these things. Now I dont even care what others think. It kind of reminds me of a movie I saw on TV about a woman with 2 autistic kids that started screaming and throwing a fit in a store and people looked at her horribly and told her to learn to control her kids!

Maybe they think the child is "normal" but is just having an everyday tantrum as many children do. My son does not have a disability but he has outburst and people react the same way, as if they never had a children before.

i don't make exciting of handicapped toddlers or adults. i don't choose to be sure human beings snort at them the two. Why human beings do, they are in basic terms ignorant those that do exactly not understand and that they choose to experience greater advantageous to those others. Being handicapped isn't humorous in any respect. it somewhat is an rather severe concern and should not be taken gently. some individuals are born that way, others substitute into that way from having a stroke. particularly particularly everyone could do is prepare some admire, love, and compassion in direction of them. it does not be humorous to me to be handicapped, i could experience devastated and it may substitute me as a individual and what i'm able to do bodily.

just b/c someone is an adult, it doesn't mean that they know what they are doing. those "adults" make fun of disabled children for the same reasons that children make fun: to make themselves feel better about themselves. "hey, i might be stupid, or ugly, or whatever, but THAT kid is even worse than me!! ha!" it's a sad truth of humanity

Well...i believe everyone has their "plus and minus" points..God is fair..Not everyone is perfect..Even adults have their own "diabilities"...Sadly for this particular group of adults , they have the "DISABILITY OF UNDERSTANDING" the situation of child with special needs.."Grown-ups with a child's brain".

Ignorance and meanness. Just because they look like adults does not mean they are. You could pass them a flyer about the illness.
