Part of being a soldier is engaging in ones civic duties. What if law and order brokedown and people were robbing and killing your neighbors? Would you do anything about it or would you consider that murder in killing the people that are trying to kill your neighbors and/or your family? That is all a soldier is doing is fighting to keep this country safe so that everyone back home can drive their volvos to their kids' soccer games without having to worry about getting gunned down by enemies of the state.

Sincere Christians disagree on this point. If you owned a gun and a little old lady was about to be murdered next door, would you help defend her? Same thing with the military. Christians are not to murder, but killing to protect others is different. It is like being on a police force. Those that we fight militarily are fighting by choice. They could surrender.
Jesus would not rebel against his own government, but he was never required to do military service either.

Let's not forget the Roman soldier who had more faith than many of Jesus' followers. Christ was very well pleased with him. God loves faith and people are declared righteous by their faith. But that man was a soldier.
Christians are not supposed to murder without cause. Defending yourself or your country is good cause. Throughout the bible, you'll find many reference to God-fearing or Christian soldiers. So the answer is yes, it is okay for a christian to enroll in the military.
HOWEVER, I would advise one to read bible prophecy in light of today's news and let that heavily weigh in on their decision. I don't think I would join this late in the game. But you can.

The Bible is full of soldiers who fought and died for there country- just read the Old Testament. In Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Sometimes it isn't possible-then we need to fight. We have to hope and pray that our leaders won't send out our soldiers to fight when there is no need. Obviously from history we know that isn't the case, but serving and protecting your country is defiantly Biblical.

In situations like these it is best left up to the individual. But we should all ask ourselves would Jesus do this?
There is a story of a Christian who went to WWII i think and he didn't carry a weapon and he won a medal too, he was more like a medic and he helped the wounded in deep battle without using a weapon.

The bible tells us to respect our government. If you join the army and are instructed to kill,do so.Whether you feel it's wrong is up to you and God.
Of course joining the armed forces kind of puts you in a situation where you don't have choice but to fight when called upon.

Jesus said "I came not to bring peace, but the sword" so obviously yes, all christians should take up arms againsts non believers.
Also, God sets the example and if you have read the Bible you know he condones war and killing if people don't obey him.

the commandment says not to murder... which is senseless killing
to kill for self defense is ok, and pre-emptive killing to avoid a sure attack ,which will produce even more death ( kill 10 to avoid 1000 murders idea) is ok..
