i'm looking to take a wildlife photography trip across the US. I want to find a large variety in animals from moose to wolves to bears, etc. I'm not interested in fish, whales, nor alligators on this trip. Also, any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Visit the Bears High in the Yellowstone Mountains(all-around hard to beat due to size and protected status) In Late July and August the bears spend all day eating moths on the open rocks.

Moose all throughout the northwest. Late summer in the Tetons you can find traffic jams as people pull off to take pictures of Moose.

Oct-Nov is also Great in Yellowstone, Crowds are gone and the animals are grazing lower. All the steam lingers in the air.
ELK Herds in the town of Mammoth, Mountain Goats, Eagles, of course the Bison, Coyotes. Course the bears are mostly gone by then.

For Wolves try Northern Montana.

Parks are great, protected and full of roads. But start with the least visited/popular trail.

Talk to Rangers not tourists. Rangers can point you to where the animals frequent, tourists can point you to where you can see an animal running away from tourists.

OH, and take a nap. All the animals do. Shoot late, and get up EARLY.

hope you have a good f/2.8 400mm or 500mm lens though.

Definitely the north western States (Oregon, Washington, Montana, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, etc..) during the Spring though..Go along the border and go to Canada on the western side and you can get a bunch....eagles around the lakes, bears, wild cats are harder to find, moose, tons to see dude...start packing and start planning..

South to southwest, all you get is boring prairie dogs, alligators, birds that you see everywhere else, humming birds, and squirrels, and don't take another picture of a deer....that is boring and easy...go for the good stuff..

2 weeks isn't long adequate to try this plus easily SEE something. SLC to Vegas is 6 hours minimum of utilising, with no longer something to work out alongside the way. Vegas to l. a. is yet another 4. l. a. to Seattle is approximately 18 hours. that does no longer element in any area journeys to do any sightseeing.
