I've never lost one of my birds to flight but I've lost enough animals to death that I know that feeling of loss when someone you love very much is gone.

Don't give up hope that he will return. As someone else suggested, put his cage and food out where he can get to them from the outside. Also, contact the Humane Society in your area and report your friend as missing. Also, do a search on the Internet for wildlife rescue groups in your area (remember, birds can fly a long way so make sure you contact groups within 100 miles of you) and if possible, send them information and a picture of your bird. They're always getting calls from concerned citizens about a bird in trouble. Put an ad in your local newspaper and a message on Craig's List (on the Internet) in your area. Next, do a search on the Internet for bird chat rooms and post messages asking for help in finding your bird. When writing this message on Answers, you should have included the location your bird went missing (city & state), the kind of bird you're looking for and his name. You have a huge network of communication available to you -- use it!

If your friend never returns ( I wouldn't give up hope for at least a month or two), then grieve his loss as you would any loss. Losing a pet is painful and you have the right to grieve.

Good luck and I hope you'll post more information so we can help look for your bird too.

I love my dog as a child,,, well ok at least like a best friend. She ran away from where I was keeping her three weeks ago, in a city more than 25 miles away from me. Everyday right when I turn on my computer I search and search until my bf's little brother wants to hang out or sometimes until I go to bed. Now I dont know anyone who loves a dog more than me but she was beautiful and I hope for the best. I have faith that I will find her, and I have enough trust in her that she will not bite anyone who is trying to help her. I trained her to see the difference between helping and hurting, and thank god it worked with her. The point is that I am never going to give up on her even if it was a year from now I would still have hope and faith that she would still be alive... Now sit down and think for a moment,,, How much trust do you have in him that he shall return? if I were you (not trying to be mean about it) I would get up and go find my parrot,,, But I have no car and no lisense to even go get my pretty baby back

i lost my dog last year, i know how ur feeling.
hurt, bereft with grief and not knowing where ur beloved bird is, must b hell.
have u contacted all the local bird sanctuaries and put an ad in ur local paper, put up posters around ur neighbourhood?
get busy making posters and ringing around.
distraction will help temporarily and once u've done all of that u need 2 sit urself down. give urslef a good talking 2 as this is destroying ur life, accept that u did ur best and 4 the sake of ur health and future U must move on.
i know it's going 2 b difficult and i suggest u contact an organisation regarding grief counseling; use all the help available 2 ease this unhappy time.
in time u will discover a new parrot could replace that gap in ur heart, that's what i did.
in time i found another dog, he's not a replacement but my savior.

you never mentioned what kind of parrot and where you live?? Depending on this I'd put some food out for him and maybe even his cage. He may come back.
You could put out a lost and found article in the local newspaper, someone may see him.
We captured a budgie that had obviously flown away from someone, we didn't have a clue how to find the owners but he lived a long and happy life with us!!!
Someone may take him in, you can take comfort in that.

how horrible you must be feeling right now. I can only suggest that you keep food out for him to encourage him to come home. Maybe he won't have gone too far from you and is still local. A neighbour of my parents had two parrots who lived permanently outside in the woods behind their house who never flew away because they knew where 'home' was. It sounds as if your parrot loves you very much..............perhaps he will come back if you keep a window open when you're home. He is probably missing his home comforts and 'friends' as much as you are missing him. Hope he comes home to visit soon. God bless. x

Go to Yahoo, click on Groups, type in 911parrotalert, locate the group and report your missing Parrot.
Don't give up, many Parrots are recovered and returned to there rightful owner, but this won't happen by just giving up.
Post Flyers around your neighborhood and at local petshops.
You say you loved your friend, then its time to do your best in finding your little one.
Keep your chin up, never give up.....

I'm sorry about your loss :(. Bonds with animals can be very strong, especially when they have been in your family for a long time. While I wouldn't consider getting another bird, try waiting for him. And if he never comes back, you may be sad, but think, he's happier there if he never cames back. And if he died, he probably died trying to come home. Remember, if you love something, set it free. If it needs you, it will come back to you. Again I'm very sorry. I know what you're going through.

you should realise that your parrot have the right to fly freely in the open sky.nobody had forced him to go away from you but it was his own wish or the God's decision. so ,don't be upset and hope for the happiness of your lovely parrot. please remember the fact that"God never closes a door without opening a window". i advice you to give more time to your studies and you will definitely achieve success in your life.

You could get a new parrot if you can afford it and if not then you could say a pray and keep looking for it or put up a reward poster for it as a missing pet
