Mincemeat is a word commonly used in England to describe a sweet delicious minced mixture of dried fruit, nuts, molassis, and I think breadcrumb (my mother always put breadcrumb in there to help bind the other ingredients). You then cut out pastry rounds to line those little individual muffin pan sections, spoon in your mincemeat mix, put a pastry lid on each one, and into the oven to bake till the pastry is golden brown. These Mincemeat Pies, as they are known, are a long traditional Christmas thing, served after the meal, along with the Christmas Pudding. And believe me, they are deeeelicious. Right before Christmas, the ready-made jars of Mincemeat mixture would fly off the grocerystore shelves, as busy home-makers tried to save themselves a bit of time by not making their pie filling from scratch. But the store bought stuff was pretty darn good.

First of all, there is a difference in mince pie and mincemeat pie. I just had this argument with my husband last night because he thought my mince pie had nasty stuff in it. Mincemeat is a pie that poor people used to eat. The leftovers of animals that regular people didn't want to eat.. aka the 'nuts'. Probably quite literally they were in there too.
Today's mince pie is apples, raisins and other fruits minced up (cut really fine just like they did with mincemeat). Mincemeat or sweetmeat pie isn't the same.

Today's mincemeat is really cut fruits, such as currents and raisins, baked into a pie. The original mincemeat pie featured dice up beef and pork, and sometimes venison or buffalo, bakedinto a pie. It was a way of using up meat scraps, and stretching meals. I've had both kinds, and like the meat pies for a main meal, and the fruit pies for dessert.

It's called mincemeat because you"mince" nut-meats and fruit (apples, raisins) and cook it all together in a pie...That's a mincemeat pie!

you get some meat mince it (very fine) cook in a juice(gravy) make a pie crust put meat in crust put lid on (like any-other pie) cook in oven till crispy on outside remove from oven put in paper bag(after putting tomato sauce(ketchup)on it then eat & engoy
or if in aussie go to a pie shop & buy one
