It really does depend a great deal on just how old she is...
Some popular ways to incorporate the importance of a child accepting a new step-parent include:
* Special vows made to the child.
* The giving and receiving of a necklace, bracelet or other token from the step-parent to the child.
* The sand ceremony, blending different colored sands into a single container, symbolizing the creation of a new family.
(More details on the sand ceremony here:

Of course, the most important thing is to ASK the child how she would like to be included. Some would prefer to sit outside the pagentry and simply be acknowleged with words, some want to dress up and be stars of the show...
Setting the stage for your new relationship is important, making sure you respect her desires and show her that you really care about what she thinks is a good way to start.
Good Luck!

Depending on her age she could be a flower girl or a bridesmaid. I would write a special vow for her and include her in as much planning for the wedding that you could. Like ask her questions about you colors or take her shopping with you to pick out your dress. Just so she feels involved with everything, after all she will be your step daughter. I would treat her as if she was your own daughter.

We made our invitations out from our children. I would use the daughter as a flower girl or Jr Bridesmaid.
It would also be nice if you made some vows to the daughter promising to be a good mom and give her a locket.
I also have used my daughter to help make favors and pick the wedding cake.

It is a necklace that represent all of us coming together. His daughter is going to be my maid of honor, and my boys the ring bearers. We also will be doing a unity candle with 5 wicks, one for each member of the family.

I know it's not the same thing but when my boss got married to his wife (who had a daughter) he bought her a ring that he gave to her at the wedding ceremony as well. I don't know how you would do this but perhaps something similar would be nice.

It all depends on her age. If she is a teen, she could be a junior bridesmaid; if older, a bridesmaid. If she is four and up, a flower girl. If in between, to sit at the guest book at the reception.
