What's the best way to ask a father's permission to marry his daughter? Any idea is welcome, her dad is the more traditional type and I need some help.

My hubby took my parents out to dinner and asked for his blessing.

The dinner was going well and he looked at my father and said...
Mr. .... I have been dating your daughter for 3 years and I would love to spend the rest of my life loving her. With your blessing we would like to make this possible.

All went well.....

Though he did have an exit plan in place...lol>just in case.

Best wishes and I think its wonderful, you're being traditional!

The best way to do this depends on the personalities of those involved and whether the father likes the intended. I would make absolutely sure the father is going to give this a thumbs up. What will you do if he says no? Perhaps a better way to do this would be to, rather than ask, talk to the father and let him know your feelings and intentions for his daughter and tell him that you hope you and she will have his full support. This way, it's not a question to be denied.
Consider inviting the father over to your home for a meal that you have prepared yourself, especially with his likes and dislikes in mind. As a parent. I would appreciate that sort of attention to detail and it would show me how much you care. If you cannot cook, order in beforeheand and plate the take out on to a specialliay set table.

This is mainly because it's a matter of respect to the family.
I know this is a nautural old custom of alot of latinos, You just assure the father that you love his daughter very much and will do everything you can possible to make her happy. Let him know how important family is to you also. If you are religious, that is a great plus. Do your best. Also tell him alittle bit about how you will support her too!!!!!!! hard worker etc. etc.

Sit her parents down in a comfortable environment. Explain to them how much you love their daughter AND respect her family. Tell them that it is your desire to become part of that family. Then look them in the eye and ask for their blessings. Do allow them them to think and process. Take deep breaths!

Besides telling him that you love her you should also say that you respect her and let him know that you will be able to support her financially if need be as well as support her emotionally so she too can excel in life.

Ask him about how he felt when his dad gave or didn't give permission to his sisters or brothers.
