The black color is indigo. From what I've read, the best way to get really black hair with indigo is to treat your hair with henna first, rinse it out, and then treat it with indigo.
Henna on its own will turn your hair a reddish color - and will turn the grey hairs BRIGH orangy-red. It is permanent, and can greatly improve your hair's strength and texture. Indigo is actually a blue dye, but a very dark one, and combined with henna it will dye hair black. It isn't permanent - it washes out after a while, so you'll have to re-dye your hair every so often (which you would anyway because you'll get roots).

Go to your local Health Food Store, they can help you find a natural hair color.
When you color dark hair , that also has Gray hair, you should add Ash to the color, that keeps your Gray hair from turning Orange. If you have dark hair NEVER use Henna, the Gray will become bright orange.
