No one can tell you what to do. Some vague generalities might be helpful. Like, be real. And don't make a mental construct out of it. Just deal with what really comes up instead of what you think could happen. Be there for him as a friend without feeling like you have to prove anything. Good luck!

Is he married? If yes, then he's already committed. It's a dead end street.
Find someone who is available to you. You mention that you have been with him "over the years" and yet he still had been unable to overcome the "big obstacles".
You may love and care for him but that doesn't mean that you are meant to be together...
How many more years do you want to spend alone?

You cannot do anything - you need to walk away. All this stuff is his problem and he hasn't sorted it - by hanging around you are not allowing him the space to make the break for himself.
Give him the number/website of a suitable counsellor or support group and walk away.
Worry about yourself and your life - don't be dragged down by his problems - he needs to deal with them himself.

Openly and honestly to you, your headed for problems.
This realtionship is not and will not go anywhere and your heading for hurt.
Whats this with not coming to him? that sounds just a little suspicion.
are you sure your seeing love in those eyes or just desire of other things there?
My suggestion is since he is receving counseling. back off and brek it off especially if his life is that low and out of order.
There certanily is someone better out there for you.
good luck.
He is letting to many people and family rule what is wants. That is not going to work for either of you.
Is it posssible he is alredy attached and cheating? this is something you need to think about before you get into a bad realtionship.

Very difficult situation ,but I would leave him.
Cause family is more important than just attachment.
You can have your family ,your children too.
I think that he loves you , but he's afraid that his family 'll know about his relation with you , or maybe something else.
Don't worry , be careful , I think you must find someone else. :)

You'll know (in his eyes) if he loves you. If you have to ask then you probably dont know.
