Dental Fluorosis!
I stopped using fluoride toothpaste a year ago, since then, I do not have sensitive teeth, they've become whiter, my breath is fresher and the last time I went to the dentist was the first time in 30 years where I didn't need any drilling!

RE:
FLUORIDE: Is It bad for your teeth?
Apparently the American Dental Association admits it, it warns mothers against preparing baby foods with fluoridated water as it may be bad for the development of babies' teeth.
Why does my dentist insist on it!

Babies should have a very low amount of fluoride per day. The total dose should be at 0.25 mg or less. Water is fluoridated at a level of 1 part per million. This would give 1 mg per liter of water. This is based on the expected daily consumption of 1 liter, which is approximately the same as 1 quart. If your baby drinks four 8 ounce bottles of formula a day, this means the baby is getting a full milligram of fluoride, which is four times the recommended dose for a baby. It is better to mix formula in non-fluoridated water and provide the fluoride in a prescribed supplement so you know exactly what dose the baby is getting.
Roxusan, can you please tell me how to get on a list of dentists who are paid to recommend certain things? I tell everyone to use Crest toothpaste, but they won't even give me free samples.

Dentists are sometimes paid to promote certain things. In this case, I think fluoride is not a bad idea. The American Dental Association was alarmed about a true fact: LARGE AMOUNTS of fluoride are harmful. Yet just brushing your teeth with some isn't harmful, and is actually beneficial to you. If fluoride was so harmful, you, I, and a lot of other people would have poorly developped teeth!

It's good for teeth (especially young, developing teeth). Unless the ADA has discovered something new (?!), the addition of fluoride in toothpaste has been around for a long time. Water naturally contains fluoride and in some countries where content is lower, taking fluoride tabs is prescribed for kids. I've recently moved to UK from France, and my kids were prescribed fluoride tabs there. The French take the health of their teeth pretty seriously, so I'd go along with them on this. Now, too much fluoride, is of course bad for you (as is mostly anything).

Fluoride is only dangerous in excess. I don't know how much they put in the water in the US, but in the UK the level in the drinking water is completely safe and tooth decay in children in fluoride-treated water areas is five times less than that of children in non-fluoride-treated water areas.
‘Dental fluorosis’ is caused by having too much fluoride when the teeth are developing. This can ahppen when fluoride supplements are taken by children under 7 who live in areas where the water supply is fluoridated. It can also happen when children swallow toothpaste.

Yes, flouride should not be given to babies and young children as it is toxic if swallowed in large doses, many toothpastes for children and herbal toothpastes don't contain any. Flouride does make your teeth stronger at the deveolping age and more resistant to decay, and since flouride is a naturally occuring mineral in water, we all have tiny amounts which do us no harm, flouridated water has more added which is a contraversial matter, yet many other chemicals are used to treat water we drink.
Flouride mouthwash is a good alternative for strengthening teeth as you spit it out.

So many people using industry statistics to prove their points on debates. You give me any stat and i'll show you how it could have been manipulated. Smarten up people and stop believing the stats. The stats are there to make you assume something, and offers no accountability to anyone other then yourself. You are the only one who loses if you choose to believe. The day someone will be held accountable for what they attempt to make the public believe, is they day i will start taking stats more seriously.

Yes it is bad for yur teeth too much can rot them. I live in scotland and flouride is banned from the drinking water here but in England Flouride is still added to drinking water. Flouride is still important but only in toothpastes as this alone gives enough protection where as drinking it all the time does have adverse effects

Why doesn't everyone just stop listening to the so called 'experts' that keep preaching to us about what we should use, eat, do etc. I often wonder how people managed in days gone by without all the 'experts' input? As long as you don't overdo anything, then a little of what you fancy does you good. Be it food, drink, sunbathing, or whatever. Just live your life to suit yourself, stop listening to all these loonies.
