Due to problems implementing my system and making it work, how about Military service, run by an organisation similar to the army (ex-servicemen) make the 16yr old do six months to a year? or longer depending on how long it takes to sort them out.

And they would not be allowed to send them to war before anyone bleats on about the little darlings.

How about prison for persistantly bad parents?

As a former Army officer I can only say that I thoroughly endorse the reintroduction of national service. The people of England have lost all sense of civic responsability.

I currently live in Switzerland, which has compulsary military service every year up to the age of 35. The young men here are far better behaved and the populace in general has a much stronger sense of national identity and pride.

Why should all teenagers be tarred with the same brush as idiots? Perhaps the 'Military Service' you are suggesting should be for those who are truants or are already in trouble with the law.

However, I am sure people will say it is against their civil liberties to make them square bash!

Oh, and am just wondering how many parents would say 'my johnny/jenny is a good kid (notice they never say child!) so it does not apply to them' - of course, this applies to my two children!

Although a good idea in principle, am wondering how it will work in practice. After all, we cannot let them have guns or knives as we don't want to give them any new ideas - or show them how to use the ones they already have access to! So what are we going to do with them? By the sound of it, you are suggesting a Boot Camp. But are you giving parents a 'cop out' - they will learn to behave properly in the 6 months, so I don't have to do anything!

Somehow, I think that compulsory parenting classes should be brought in. However, I have often wondered how we as parents are allowed to punish the children. We have been told not to smack, so use the 'naughty chair'. Now we are informed this is bad for the child, so should not use that either. What exactly are we to chastise children?

In a nutshell, your 'boot camp' idea is good but I think it should instead be for any parent of a truanting child, not for the children.

Military service is a good idea to a certain degree, not all kids grow up to be unruly yobs! My brother was going of the rails then joined the army and this has changed him completely, but there arae some kids out there who just dont give a damn and even military service wouldnt sort them out.
