I live my life within the confines of the 10 commandments but as yet have not found a religion that supports the same ideas.

I cannot stand profiteering so that eliminates most of them.

Maybe buddhism could be the way?

I definitely think so mate! Its such a great thing to be able to fit into your daily life and routines. It really is about fundamentally changing your outlook and fundamental happiness! I am a member of the Soka Gakkai International, and we practice Nichiren Buddhism. All we do is chant twice a day to reveal our Buddha nature. Eventually, as you realise that the great things happening to you are not coincidence, you will really feel in control of everything in your life and environment.
So the first thing to do, is start chanting and getting proof that it works for your life.
It's not like magic and you need patience. Ideally its good to be doing 10 mins in the morning and 10 mins in the evening each day (or whatever you can manage!.)
As you are chanting face a blank wall, relax and maybe light a couple of candles. Then just focus your mind on what you feel the worse things are in your life and what you would like to change. For me it was lack of money, frequent arguments with my partner etc.
Then as you chant be determined in your mind - i.e "I AM going to make enough money so I won't have to struggle!" and "I AM going to find out what it is about mself that makes my partner argue and shout at me!" Then put a time limit on what you have determined - i.e. "I will earn an extra £1000 by the 15th December so I can afford presents for my family with money left for myself."
You see what I mean? The biggest part about it is DON'T GIVE UP! BE DETERMINED!! Don't ASK these things while you chant - DETERMINE that they WILL happen without fail!!
You will become the master of your mind and before you know where you are, you will start to get proof. The weirdest thing about it is that you may not get what you chant for straight away, but you may get other things that you haven't chanted for!! You will know that the changes are because you have chanted, because a) They won't normally happen! b) They will be good!! and c) You will just know! Have a go! And please keep asking me questions! Go 4 it!

Don't follow any deity or religion. To do so is to betray the evolution of the human mind beyond such primitive things. Be rational, not superstitious. Be skeptical, not credulous. And why do you need to "follow" - are you a sheep? Above all, be independent of thought. It doesn't mean you have to be in some way unpleasant or unapproachable. It just means you should be honest with yourself, admit we have not got the slightest indication of anything beyond the physical world, and be courageous enough to carry on in a dignified and moral (in the philosophical sense) way in spite of the lack of intrinsic "meaning". Buddhism, (not a true religion as such) as with Christianity and most "faiths", contains some well tried and tested truths about how we should live, but as far as I'm concerned, the thinker turns to philosophy and reason, rather than religion or faith.

Christianity. "Love All, Forgive All, Show Mercy, Judge No-One." After the Holy Spirit has done His work in you you get:-

* A renewed mind, free from the brainwashing of the world
* A cancellation of the compulsion to do wrong or not do right (often counter to our own desires).
* The ability to love even those that consider you their enemy
* A positive attitude to every situation in life, a knowledge that all will work out
* A stability of emotion that means that you are peaceful and can resist stress, depression and so on
* The ability to see the good in other people, even when no-one else can
* The ability to show kindness to a sacrificial degree, to serve even those the world considers outcasts
* Patience which means that, no matter how many times thing seem to go wrong, or how many times someone does the same wrong to you, you treat it just as if it was the first.
* The ability to do anything that needs to be done without complaint, no matter how dirty it is.
* The ability to be content with whatever you have or whatever you are given.
* The ability to be insult proof, not getting upset or angry with what people say or do to you.
* The ability to go through life without the need to have things your own way, or to insist on your rights. Even going so far as not trying to get back money or items you have loaned others or have been stolen from you.
* The ability to fulfil your promises, even a mere "yes" or "no," no matter what the cost to you or what difficulties it might create.
* Freedom from being controlled by bodily desires, obsessions, addictions and the like.

And the all-time prize:-
Eternal Life with, complete knowledge of The Meaning of Life, and a share in the Power and Authority of Jesus Christ Himself.

Obviously, i'm biased, so i'll try to be as fair as i can.
If you want to follow a religion, which most ordinary human being will be led to at one point or another if they have enough brain in their heads to fill a teaspoon, then i'd advice you to make a list. right down every single religion you can think of. Then study each religion in turn. look for the flaws. tick them off. keep the only one left.
I'd advice you islam, because it's the most credible religion. Media apart, obviously, it is also an amazingly beautiful religion. When you start reaidng the quran, and not what people think the quran says, you'll see that it makes sense. profound sense at that. It is also a relatively easy religion to follow.
A tip, though: if you want to convert to ANY religion, do NOT look at the people who practise it. Do not look at the christians but at christianity. do not look at jews but at judaism. do not look at muslims but islam. etc etc etc. Good luck.
I really feel good and proud of living on this earth when i see people like you who understand that there is more to lfie than Big Brother and Eastenders on the TV. Congratulations and good luck. I hope you find what you seek. Respect to you.

You made a good start! Your question is very easy to answer. I don't like it either when people question my beliefs or when they want to rub something off on me. Religion starts between you and God, it is a personal relationship. There is only ONE God, you already know who that is since you know the ten commandments. When we are born, we are veiled, our eyes and hearts are covered from the truth. In the Bible it says that the word of God is like a double edged sword, and that sword can pierce your heart and split that veil wide open! That is why it is so important to read from the Bible! Ephesians 6, and I bring this verse up for the 2nd time tonight, tells us that we should put on the armour of God, with the belt around our waist as the truth. The word of God is the truth, the whole body armour is connected to that one item, the belt, it is central:

"Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace."

We are taught about God and we do believe in Him, but there is just that something that makes you wonder and doubt if He is really outthere. When we are reborn, that is when things start happening! When we pray to God and ask Him to reveal Himself to us, when we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit and welcome Him into our life and hand Him the steering wheel, man, that is when it really kicks in! You have to confess to God, really open your heart and take Him in! I am a South African living and working in Taiwan, a country where buddhism is a very important part of life, the main religion. I know a lot about it and I can tell you one thing: it is a dead religion.
If you let God into your life, you will know this to be true! May God bless you and reveal Himself to you, may the Word of God pierce your heart and may the veil that is covering your eyes be cut away by the sword, Amen!

Blessings!

Why not follow the belief that the ten commandments was based upon, and that was Christianity ? The trouble is that most people base their beliefs off of what they see other people do and not off of what the basis for the religion is. Don't go into a certain religion because of what other people say or do, go into something based on what your true gut feeling is. I will say this one thing that Jesus Christ is the only deity that is still alive with proof that he was crucified, was dead, was buried, and rose on the third day with all power in his hand! Hallelujah!

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We believe in the 10 commandments and live them, yet there is so much more in the scriptures.

Since you have a Christian background, I would suggest that you start by reading and studying the all of the scriptures. Men can use words to convice and "prove" just about anything so there is no sense in trusting man on this type of question. The Holy Ghost teaches us all things and brings all things to our remembrance, so I would suggest that you pray to God and let him help you discover his will and the path that you should chose.

Good luck. If you have any question during your quest, contact me.

you should follow the Religious Belief System which you feel in your heart is the right one for you. there are many paths and ways to get to ones destination. one can walk, ride a bike, a motorcycle, take a bus, a train, a taxi, an airplane, etc. and still arrive at the destination. arriving there is the important thing not how one gets there. GOD is to big to be in only one place and the only major differences in one Religion and another are the NAMES they refer to GOD as along with the Rituals and Ceremonies they perform to Honor, Adore. Worship, Praise, Thank, Pray and Petition, Etc.
