I have a toshiba laptop with a 16-bit windows compatible audio card, and am thinking of installing some music software which recommends DirectX or ASIO drivers for the sound card. How can I check what my soundcard currently uses?

if in WInXP:
Start>control panel>system>hardware(tab)>device manager.
your sound card should be on the list under "sound video and game controllers". double click it and click the driver tab and driver details

If you are using Windows, find the My Computer icon, Right click on it, select Manage.

From the window that appears, on the left column, select Device Manager.

Now look on the right column. This is a list of your systems installed devices. Click on the audio section and look at the details. This may reveal what you need.
