The degree of seperation between a homeless person and not is very small.
Homeless people are a reminder of the failure of society, particulaly in regards to mental health and caring.
We currently had a homeless person found dead in the steets , who had been homeless for many years and was well known by city workers, who actually was a beneficiary of a half million dollar inheritance.
We become so self absorbed that we ignore the suffering of the people in our society who could do with some help.
There but for the grace of God go all of us.
Torionto G you are the reason many countries legalised abortion ...so suck me yahoo thought police if you take my points.

They are in a tough situation. They can't get a job without an address and clean clothes! So what are they supposed to do? That is just the start. They can't shower either. They don't have a lunch to take or money to buy one. I feel really sorry for them. They have gotten down on their luck and need someone to help them get out. Just imagine, if you were to lose your home and everything you own and had to start living on the streets. What would you do? You probably would get hungry enough to ask for money or food, right? What else are they supposed to do? Just set there and starve to death? I wouldn't think so. I think between the government and the rich people, there is enough out there to build buildings or house to take these people in untill they earn enough to get a place of their own. It seems so simple to me. But, I , unfortunately, do not have any money myself to do this or I would. Have a heart when thinking about them and imagine if you were in their shoes.

I don't think most people would want to live on the street. Some are there for loss of job/home/family. Hurricane Katrina left many homeless. A lot of people are on the streets because of drugs/addictions. I've also seen people on the street begging for money just because they don't want to work and they really already have a house. Can't really group the "homeless" all into one group.

It can happen to anyone at any time so count Your blessings. It's happen to me after my first divorce and it's hard to get back up. I never asked anyone for anything and I took no charity, I preferred to starve before I surrendered my last true possession, my dignity. I've risen many years ago from this state of disgrace and now enjoy the same comforts as any but I've never forgotten the horror of those days so I always give money to the fallen and I'll take the moment or two to talk with them because I know how much the human contact and conversation means to them. God be merciful to those below the salt for but for thine Grace go I.

well they cant get a job bc the have no address and no where to clean up so Even trying to get a job is very very hard. ppl will not give them food or a place to get cleaned up so they can get jobs. so the only thing that ppl will give quickly is change. SO i think if that is the only way to get what they need then fine. I do not give money i try to give them blankets and food sometimes money though. I do not feel like they sholdnt ask bc that is the only way they can get things they need. YES i know some use it for drugs and alchol but there are most who use it for the things they need.

Depends on my day!
I know there are homeless people in Australia but rarely see them.
The nice part of me sympathises with the fact that they might be homeless in a genuine need for self-preservation (escaping violent environment etc) the other part of me battles with the drug-addict stereotype who put themselves in the position.
Sometimes I think I give coins to feel good about myself rather than actually wanting to help them :(
Its a tough question, but a good one.

Someone was getting there dose of Tyra! I tend to give money when I have it because it's not that frequent I run into the homeless, but I tend not to strike a conversation. I did become friends with one homeless man who told me how he was moving to another state eventually to help run his brother's jewelry store. He was a great man.

I believe we all do what we need to survive. This looks different for different people. When I see homeless people I feel sad and angry that this can happen in the wealthiest country in the world. It is an indictment on how we use our resources.
...and I ask myself - -what would have had to have happened to me (personally) for my only choice is to be homeless and begging for money?

I feel bad for them.I wish they were better off. But it's hard to determine which ones are genuinely homeless and need help and which ones prefer to remain homeless
