Talk and chalk is a method of teaching where the teacher presents certain facts or concepts in a way that encourages a response from the pupils or students. The teachers should pose certain questions to elicit suitable answers that require some thought. The responses from the pupils (not necessarily correct answers) are put on the blackboard so that a logical sequence of learning is achieved with maximum participation and discussion from the class. Teachers should not just write things on the board or screen and expect the pupils to take it in or write it down. This is boring and achieves nothing. However, the "talk and chalk" method is not appropriate for every subject or topic. A good teacher uses a variety of methods of teaching to help the pupils learn and retain the facts and concepts taught.

Real teaching, from the days when pupils were expected to listen and learn.
Has been replaced, except in my lessons, by a host of modern/trendy methods that all pretend that learning is "easy".
This has been the cause of the decline in educational standards, and created the need for "dumbing down" in public examinations.

It means that you talk at the pupils and 'chalk' stuff up on the blackboard to write down. It implies there is very little communication or interaction between teacher and pupils or pupils and pupils. It is cinsidered dated and efforts are made to avoid it.

This is the "Sage on the Stage" approach it means that the person lectures and punctuates main points by writing on the board as the students listen and take notes.
