Americans -- as if they were the only Americans?
By doing so don't they are tarnish all American countries (America is the two continents - both North and South America - that make up the Western Hemisphere not just the United States ) as we are all Americans?
Agreed that the United States was founded on good principles but have they not strayed from the right path (not the righteous path).
They speak of freedoms and preserving freedoms but they continually curtail freedoms of others (not to mention their own freedoms - whether they realize it or not they are becoming a police state) and break international law as it suits their needs (there are still hundreds of prisoners in Guantánamo Bay Naval Base who by the Geneva Convention should have specific rights and are denied them as a mater of routine)…

For some of you... let's begin with geography Central America is not a continent but a land bridge between the two continents, and Guantanamo Bay is in CUBA!
I am not talking only about nudity but about Canadian domestic policy. Many laws in Canada are the way they are because of US economic pressures (that don't really exist - as the US needs what Canada has to export more than Canada needs to export it)
samples of what US Citizens could refer to themselves as :
US'ERS (pun intended)
Staters
Statian
Statonian
some-one suggested Yanks (but that might P*ss off the Texan).
colonian (that won't fly after 1776).
Republican (oops! that irritate the Democrats).

The fact is with out Canadian Imports the United States' economy would suffer greatly (that's not to say that the Canadian economy wouldn't). What I'm saying is that the US needs our exports more than we need to export them to the States. Canada is the largest supplier to the US for wood, oil, minerals, and water. Most of Canadian resources go to the US - BEFORE Canadians get a crack at them.
Canada should exercise its sovereignty from time to time and not become the "broke-back" neighbour it so often is.
As for “When in the history of the convention have US prisoners of war been treated according to the Geneva Convention” : as the US was included in the drafting of the convention it should hold to its word. Further more as the “almighty” purveyors of democracy and freedom the US should be held to a higher standard. Otherwise it becomes the evil it tries to vanquish!

Q: When has Europe or any place else claim some kind of human rights superiority over the USA?
A: Every day!
Ernst Zundel was deported by Canada to Germany after contravening Canada’s Hate Laws (he was tries and convicted).
Socialism is not a bad word except to those who don’t want to take care of their compatriots!

Call them Yanks, it's more apt.
Or as the British used to say about those 'blasted Americans', "Overpaid, oversexed and over here".

Being an American citizen myself I understand what you are saying, however.
Do people from Canada call themselves Americans? No, Canadians.
Mexico? No, Mexicans.
Chile? No, Chileans.
Costa Rica? No, Costa Ricans.
I could keep listing but it would take too much time.
If the continent of South America had been a United Country it might be different.
Here's an example, even if it might be a bad one. Suppose there was a country called the United States of Latin America.
The citizens would either call themselves Americans, or Latin Americans. But it's not like that. In the Western Hemisphere there is only one nation who used the name of the continent in it's formation. The United States of America. So it's citizens call themselves Americans.
You are dealing with semantics.
And as far as your concerns about what this Nation is doing currently in it's foreign policy. I agree, but hopefully the American citizens will take their head out of the sand, and see the light.

People that live in glass houses should not throw stones.
When has Europe or any place else claim some kind of human rights superiority over the USA?
Gee let's start with Ernst Zundel he was deported by Canada to Germany where he is imprisoned for his political beliefs.
Austria -David Irving is imprisoned for something he said in 1989!
Of course let us now travel to democratic south "America" which politically and economically barely out of the feudal age.
I keep hearing about so-called erosion of freedoms in the USA. But gee how many people are imprisoned for anti-Bush speeches? Zero! ...and freedom has been so curtailed but still the opposition party was swept into power in congress.
Geneva convention? When in the history of the convention have US prisoners of war been treated according to it's regulations? Never! By the way have you actually READ the Geneva convention or is this something you read in a Socialist Workers Party flier? Or on Al Jezeera?
This world is just full of Geneva Convention legal scholars...
Not one of whom cried foul when US prisoners were being tortured in Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq(and beheaded) etc.

human beings are hypocrisy and that doesn't have a political or social persuasion. it is ingrained in us. you're maximum outstanding even in spite of the undeniable fact that, it is too organic in elected arenas. Civil Unions could be granted an analogous rights and qualified respects as a time-honored marriage. maximum human beings of usa feels that way. yet, in the event that they accomplish that, they are in a position to no longer make the main the gay team to any quantity extra. by protecting it an difficulty (detect how they only focus on the "marriage" label and now no longer the rights), they carry that distinctive social employer elegant to them. Marijuana- i do no longer help legalization on account that i be attentive to the way the federal government may be. it is going to take some years to regulate it, create a furnish huge adequate for mass intake, chemically regulate it to greater healthful mass introduction, get by arguments of taxation, etc. The cartels will besides the undeniable fact that be coming up a fortune, and could we ask to make use of their furnish until at last we can get impartial, they're going to forget approximately risk-free practices disadvantages. they're already coming up a fortune by breaking our law now, why could they focus? All of that element and money and rules may be in ineffective, on account that as quickly because it is mass marketed, the tobacco Nazis will initiate on it and we can see an analogous harping approximately "2nd-hand smoke," and the marijuana complaints in opposition to the huge marijuana manufacturers. Marijuana will then be addictive on account that of additives (comparable to tobacco) and can contain concerns very comparable to tar and nicotine while they end. playing- i do no longer incredibly have an opinion on it. yet, there does seem to be an expand in crime in places wherein enjoying is approved (very own loan sharks, etc.). i think that is counted on the community and the effectiveness of the regulation enforcement. could be a state difficulty because of the fact it may selection with localities. If a state has a nicely furnish of regulation enforcement, it would no longer be this sort of difficulty.

It has become kind of a cultural tradition to refer to citizens of the US of A as Americans. We know -- or those of us who aren't complete chauvanistic morons know -- that we aren't the only Americans, but all the nations in this hemisphere are called after their country's name, and so are we. If we were the United States of Pennsylvania, we'd be Pennsylvanians.

Technically, if someone lives on one of the American continent, they are an American. So Candians are Americans. Mexicans are Americans. Peruvians are Americans. I think it is because the name of our country is so long and cumbersome, it is the best word of the group to put an -ans suffix.
Unitedan.
Statesan.
ofan.
American.
Yeah, that last one is the least awkward.

America is in the name of the country. If our country wasd named "The United States of Paul", then we'd call ourselves Paulians.
By the way, I constantly hear people in Europe (especially on this site) refer to themselves as Europeans. "Europe" does not appear in "France", "Germany", or "Turkey".
I hope this helps. The rest of your question sounds like a rant, and there's no real question there, but I hope I helped with the first part.

when the inmigrants went from the "old continent" to the "new continent" it was generalized as "going to america" and it became a costume after that. also, if you are so interested in geography and politics you should know that the americas are three and not two as youve posted in your question, theres north, central and south america and, funny enough, guantanamo is located in central america, the one youve decided to skip.
