I personally think not..Turkey hasn't a lot to offer the EU and would be a rather expensive appendage...

Personally, I believe it would contribute a lot towards Christian-Muslim unity or understanding, if the present members of the EU could bring themselves to accepting Turkey as a full member in the near future, subject to the latter fulfilling all the necessary conditions. But indications are that anti-Turkey sentiments are going to be on the rise among EU members, while at the same time anti-EU sentiments are also beginning to be felt in Turkey itself. To me, the prospects look rather grim, and that unfortunately, does not bid well for the religious harmony that the world needs at this time.

I don't understand why Turkey wants to join the EU. Why don't they use their influence and power in the Turkic speaking world where they could be leaders rather than just being the little guys in the EU?

Yes, and it will join the EU, mainly because that way the EU will get control over the oil and gas transport routes from Central Asia (and over some coming from the Middle East), as well as controlling the entrance to the Black Sea.

I don't see why they shouldn't join the EU. Most small countries have nothing to offer at first, but soon thrive e.g. Ireland and Portugal.
