my mom asked me to compile my Christmas list. I LOVE to read and I need some good book suggestions please. I am a very advanced reader. I enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, and historical fiction. ( in order) It can be a classic. I hate romance and mudane books about teenagers and there lives (like Sweet Valley high) and that stuff. Please keep in mind that I read at an adult reading level.

The Widow of the South By Robert Hicks is an historical fiction novel based around the true story of Carrie McGavock, who opened her home to wounded soldiers in the American Civil War. It is a fantastic book about the emotions and experiences that test families in times of war. I would also recommend Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides, a novel about a migrant Greek family who move to America and generations later a hermaphrodite child is born unto the family. This is infinitely readable and still very relevant today. Hope you get some good books!

I should recommed you a brilliant book by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, "One Hundred Years of Solitude" - it's somekind of a strange family chronicle, in the author's style, which is called : magic realism. I guess you will love it! If you want a weird love story, about a rock star and an unusual woman, you could read "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" by Salman Rushdie. It's great, classical literature, what I've recommend you here!
If you think you would like something very...artistic and extravagant, go and buy "The Portrait of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. That should make you meditate at certain things...:)

You've read some excellent books. My current favorite is "Justin Thyme,' which, although not an adults' books isn't a typical teen book either. It combines elements of science fiction and fantasy and is a whodunit mystery too. There are also all kinds of cryptic clues hidden in the text (and other places), although these aren't very obvious and I'm sure I'm missing half of them! It's a 'fun' read, but between the chapters it includes some thought-provoking theories about the nature of time.
Here's a link to its page on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0955357004?tag=justinthymeby-21&camp=1406&creative=6394&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=0955357004&adid=0XMWW693SNPZBTVH907Z&

"The Pact" by Jodi Picoult
"Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides
"The Other Boleyn Girl" by Phillipa Gregory (I really think you'd like this--it's historical fiction about Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. This is one on my personal favorites.)
The Pact is about two teenagers who are in love, and have always lived as next-door neighbors. They grew up together and became high school sweethearts. A problem arises as they make a "pact" to kill themselves together.
Middlesex is about a girl that is a hermaphrodite and is basically living in a boy's body. This describes all of the humiliations, changes, outcasting, etc that she has to go through to find who she, or he , really is. Very touching book. Although this is something I wouldn't ask my Mom to buy me for Christmas. The name in itself is a little embarrassing. Go check this one out at the library. :)

Since you like murder mysteries,
You could read "Detective" by Arthur Hailey.
Since you are a "very Advanced reader" a book like "The cuckoo's egg" by Clifford Stroll or perhaps "The prize" or "The Second Lady" by Wallace might be of interest to you.
If things like "Serial Killing" inspire you, "The Silence of the Lambs" by harris stands out.
I could also suggest "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo

There's a new medieval fantasy series in hardcover that you might like. The title of the first episode is THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY. It's 445 pages of action, adventure, magic, mystery and mayhem. If you're a fan of Conan, LOTR or Wheel books, this is one you'll enjoy. A Hollywood producer said it was, "Like Braveheart meets Lord of the Rings." (See other comments & reviews below.)
Good luck, whatever you decide to read!
Major Media Reviews:
Publishers Weekly said in a rare STARRED Review:
"A fast pace, sly humor, amusing dialogue and a richly researched background lift Baxley's fantasy, the first of a new series set in medieval Britain. When Merlin's long-ago apprentice Kruzurk Makshare (aka the Boozer) receives a dreamlike visitation from the legendary mage, he learns he must destroy another former apprentice, the villainous Seed of Cerberus. To do so will require a visit to the demon-guarded Blackgloom Keep. Enter young Daynin McKinnon, who discovers a curious rune-covered headstone, which may be the fabled Blackgloom Bounty, and brings it to Kruz's attention. Kruz believes it will provide entry into the fortress, while Daynin hopes the sale of the stone will restore his family's fortunes. The colorful cast of good guys and ne'er-do-wells includes the Pictish ghost of Brude McAlpin liberated from his tomb, assorted pursuing Caledonians and a bemused Prior Bede, whose monastery serves as a hiding place for the Blackgloom Bounty. Suitable for fantasy enthusiasts of all ages."
Library Journal said:
