There are two types of people when it comes to Christmas; the child-like types that get excited about Christmas and the bitter, cynical grown-up types that can't wait for it to end. You're either one or the other. If you feel you've lost your love of Christmas, I think you've turned to the dark side of the force...or worse, you've become a grown-up (I'm a grown up, but I'm definitely a child-like type. I've never lost my love of Christmas and I never will.). Merry Christmas one and all.

Reminds me of a poem by Kavanagh called Advent.
We have tested and tasted too much, lover-
Through a chink too wide there comes in no wonder.
But here in the Advent-darkened room
Where the dry black bread and the sugarless tea
Of penance will charm back the luxury
Of a child's soul, we'll return to Doom
The knowledge we stole but could not use.
Truth is, Christmas will never be the same as it was when you were young, ever, and the harder you try to bring back that same giddy feeling, the more you're going to be dissapointed. You can however replace the feeling with something just as fulfilling. Giving gifts can be just as rewarding as receiving, especially when you see the happiness it brings to people.
But it's not all about gifts, it's about community, family and the spreading of joy, or at least it should be. Visiting relatives, giving the tidings of the season to a friend or stranger, even charity work, all these can help bring the spirit of the season back.

Remember the true meaning of Christmas. It is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. If you are a Christian, attend the church of your choice. I will be attending Mass with family on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be. It really does keep the holiday in perspective.
Remember, Christmas isn't about the gifts we receive but what we give of ourselves to others. If you can bring joy to someone who might otherwise be alone or help out at a homeless shelter, you will feel the true meaning of Christmas.

why not do what me and my friends used to do which is to celebrate Ocx instead. We too felt that the joy or childish feeling of Christmas had gone. So instead we had Ocx. Every October the 27th we would celebrate Christmas in a completely different place. One year we were in a church hall with all our friends, another year we celebrated on a train, in a camping ground, in our parents homes....We had plenty of Christmas festive eats and drinks. We also gave each other a sack of presents that made us remember Christmas as it should always be remembered. We had action men, and colouring books, sweets, yo-yos, soldiers, farm animals, books to read, tangerines, bags of chocolate coins...the whole kit and kaboodle. So, why not try an Ocx (October/Xmas) next year??!!!! Merry Christmas. =-)

I really, need more details as to what happened?
If it is the commercial part of Christmas, then just give it up . no one said you have to hustle and bustle! Slow it down, give gifts of love, thoughtful gifts, gifts of time and friendship. Rent a movie and cuddle up on the couch with a loved one or even a pet!
Have a holiday dinner\gift exchange where everyone buys 1 gift and plays "dirty Santa. It is a change to spend time with friends, eat and have inexpensive fun!

Watch the movie "Polar Express." It will definitely make you believe.
Watch some Christmas movies.
Take some of your Christmas budget, and buy presents for some disadvantaged kids.
Bottom line... do something for others... and take time to appreciate the expressions on their face.

Take a dander around the shops, with everything lit up and the little children queuing to see Santa it may lift your spirits. Treat yourself to something, even some scented christmassy type candles or something small like that.

Spend it around kids. I hated Christmas until my son was 2. He made it fun again. The wide eyed little guy really has fun and its contagious.
