The option doesn't light up on the selection screen when my internet is connected. Do I need a patch? If so, where can I find it? I did a search on 'battle net' and 'battlenet' but I only found the xp patch. Also, is there any way to go back to the rouge encampment after entering hell? I don't think there is but I would love to be wrong. Any help would be great. Thanks.

The D2 servers are still up, so that is not the problem (I play.) You should write battle.net through their website at blizzard.com/support (there are many answers here to common technical problems) or call them at 1-949-955-1382, its free of charge except for any long distance charges, and they will be able to walk you through it. That number is 24/7. Good luck, and don't worry, bnet's still kicking.

You said you "only found the xp patch"--what OS are you running? That might have something to do with it, but I will admit that that's pure speculation on my part. A more logical guess would be that the Diablo servers have been taken offline--the game is getting pretty old. You could probably check http://www.blizzard.com/ and maybe they'll have some news there. Hope this helps, good luck!

I think you have to register with battle.net first, but I could be wrong.
They may have shutdown diablo servers on the other hand.
