I totally know how you feel. I too dont like spending alot of money on presents that will be ignored in a few weeks. I also dont have a lot of money to spend. Sometimes I wonder if people even remember what Christmas is really about. We will probably spend about 600 on the family. I never get anything for myself. Two girls and two step children.

It's a tough one.

I don't think it's right to spend vast amounts on christmas gifts, but there's a lot of pressure to do so. We'll probably spend £500 on christmas all told - I expect the majority of that to be on gifts for the kids (step-kids 12 and 14 and daughter 10 mos) and family and the rest on the dinner and sundries.

Splash out on your own kids, make simple attempt for your friends etc. Think back to when you where their age, and imagine what you would have liked. My boyfriend and I have a simple idea. I give him £100 for Xmas and he gives me £100 and we both buy something we like for ourselves. Cause my folks are in SA and I'm over here it's easier for me to just transfer money to them aswell to buy something for themselves, I usually send them £100 aswell. Everyone else just get Xmas cards.
