Just wondering if there is any chance for a black (African or Carribean descent) becoming a Prime Minister in UK. What would it take? What would be his priorities? What would be expected of him? Or is it just a dream that will remain a dream?

Please don't start with "British are racist" crap.

There is no reason on earth why a black man could not be Prime Minister any more than a black man could not be US president.

There are plenty of influential black MPs already.

Its just a case of someone who is black rising to the top of his party and becoming the leader. People would vote for the party they prefer irrespective of who its leader was. His policies would be whatever his party stood for.

Although to be honest, black or white, I've lost faith in politicians - they are all full of crap and promise things they don't deliver, I very much doubt skin colour would make an ounce of difference.

Oh, and "I_boo_UCLA":

Check your British history. We've already had a FEMALE Prime Minister, dimwit - does the name Margaret Thatcher mean anything to you? Thats was nearly 30 years ago.

When the US going to have a female president?

Why should black people want to become PM of UK when they have failed to bring progress to their own countries of origin? Charity begins at home; they should first try to bring order to the black world if they think they can become PMs in the developed world.

Well there could, but it's still a LONG way off. It's horrible to think that people wouldn't vote for a canidate because they were a woman or a different race or a different religion but it would (does) happen. It's unfortunate, but it's the reality. So at the moment, it isn't wise for your party candidate to be different than the white, male norm.

probably. inspite of the undeniable fact that given the distribution of diverse races in the united kingdom its plenty extra in all probability than a non-white best Minister may be asian (Indian, Pakistani or Bengali/Bangladeshi). We have already got quite a few prominent non-white MPs and Lords.

Why is it a dream?
Do you want a black PM just because he or she is black?

Personally I would prefer my politicians to be competent and intelligent. I don't give a damn about their colour or sexual orientation.
