Is it like Tossle, or is it like Towsle???
This is a very old family argument that needs to be settled! I personally think it's like 'Tossle' but no one agrees with me ...

Definitely towsle (with the same 'ow' as in 'towel').

A dictionary will give you the standard International Phonetic Alphabet pronunciation of a word along with a key to the sounds associated with each phoneme.

if you check http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/tousle you'll see the IPA pronunciation given between '/' characters.

If you click on 'Pronunciation Key' you'll get a guide to the sounds represented by each of the IPA characters which show that the standard pronunciation is as I have mentioned above.

Hope this helps!

In southern England it's like towel with a 'z' in the middle..

In Scotland it's like too-zel.

In some bits of the North it rhymes with hustle and bustle.
