For one oscar you'll require 75-gal tank (they grow longer than the width of a 55gal so the 75 provides the best accomodations for a single oscar).

For african cichlids, it depends on the type. Certain Lake Tanganyika shell-dwellers can be kept in smaller tanks (10-29gal), the more aggressive Lake Malawi mbuna ('assorted africans', etc) require 55-gal minimum due to aggression and territorial requirements. The larger lake malawi haps and lake tanganyika frontosas will require a 125-gal minimum.

Adjust size of tank (upward) depending on quantity (for example 3 oscars or 12 frontosas would require larger tank accomodations than than the minimums stated above).

One Oscar should have a tank of 50 gallons at the very least. Keep in mind they reach a meaty 14" or so and grow very, very fast. Although its growth might get stunted in an undersized tank, so will its life - the whole fish growing to their environment thing is a hoax.

Africans come in sizes ranging from 1" to 2', so the minimum size ranges from 20 gallons to 200 gallons. Refering to 'Africans' is not detailed enough to receive any worthwhile advice. You must do some research and decide what kind of 'Africans' you want to keep.

Oscars and Africans should not be kept together, they have very different needs and behaviors, coming from extremely opposite biotopes.

Frist i won't reccomend to put them together.
The african if size 2"-3" they like to put them in school5-10 fish
the best size for them for stsrt is 29Gallon.
Oscar if stsrt to keep them when they were 2" i think 29 Gallon is good stsrt for 6 of them. But when they getting big you might have to choose a pair to keep in 29 Gallon. When they getting big you will know because they stsrt to swim together.
