I know what you're saying. My mom thinks she's sooooo pretty. She's tall and blonde. That makes her gorgeous in the media's mind.
..and if she wears high heels...eww. She'd be like 6'6"...
and about her attitude. Yes, I agree. She's not a very classy girl.

Ok, so you and all your friends are not 6 3", not multi-millionaires and haven't dated Andy Roddick... Am I right? Oh, and you haven't won 2grand slam titles either have you...?
I am no big fan of Sharapova's, but let me set you straight, she isn't glorified by the media, only by perving men, and admirers of her game. She is constantly the scapegoat for grunting, being cold and cheating...all induced by the media. She is by far not the only player responsible...Williams sisters, Henin-Hardenne...and 95% of the players are coached from the sidelines...
Furthermore the "golden" things she wears...I'm pretty sure she has very little deciding power over...you call it sponsors.
And then the "name on shoe thing", these players have all had their names on their shoes at some time:
Rafael Nadal (Vamos Rafa)[you want kitsch???]
Roger Federer (FEDERER)
Svetlana Kuznetsova (Svetlana)
Kim Clijsters (KC)[her's look quite nice]
And quite a few more that aren't so high-profile.
Come on! You want to hate Sharapova... but see some reason! Sure Clijsters and Federer are so much nicer, I'm not going to argue that, but Sharapova has her manner of winning titles and it works...(whick is more than i can say for Kournikova!!! ;) )

You are just looking at one point of view and it's your own opinion. You can't force everybody to dislike her because each and every one of us has his/her own perspective. You might hate her but let's face it she might just be the only other player known here in Asia (not counting the local players of course), she's huge in East Asia (Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong). Here in the Philippines, if you ask anybody on who is Amelie Mauresmo or Justine Henin-Hardenne, they've never even heard of them. But if you say Maria Sharapova, they would say she's a tennis player. In short, the media uses her to promote tennis in some countries where it's not very popular.

the major USA tv networks need to give people a reason to tune in and watch a sport that they might not otherwise care about.. sex sells.. it's that simple.. whether it's sports, music, or movies, sex and controvery sells..
maria sharapova and serena williams are great atheletes, but that probably isn't enough alone to capture the mass audience out there.. throw in a sexy outfit, some bad press, some rumors about secret boyfriends, and you get enough controversy for people to pay attention to them..
as far as the low class, well these girls have been trained to play tennis all their life. they never went through a normal high school. they haven't been taught proper manners in life.. they are tennis machines.. they have been taught not to have emotions. it's all about tennis.. win at all costs.. it's sad in a way.

Message boards make it very easy for posters like you to state assertions as if they were facts, state opinions as if they were universal truths, make up untruthful facts and just plain lie for the sole purpose of disparaging a 19 year old tennis player.
Nearly every statement in your post is factually wrong. Your expression of a virulent hatred for a person you don't personally know and the unsupportable lies you made up to justify your hatred tell more about you than Sharapova. You expose yourself as an envious, jealous, low-life liar with no honor, no integrity and no competence.

She is pretty and has a good command of the English language. Madison Ave, looks for that . Plus she is very charismatic , love her hate her just look at the number of answers you got to this post. Real sports on HBO did a profile on her as a future champ 7 years before she won anything. The post by I Luv Tennis is great.

Where is the love? It is to ones advantage. It could increase the net profit and make for a perfect match. Then, if you are game you are all set. Wasn't Maria in that potboiler sexploitation movie titled, " Volley of the Dolls?" It would serve her right if she was at fault. Love to lob you, baby.

she happens to be the most gorgeous female tennis player to achieve a no.1 ranking...of course the media will play her up....i think class is acknowledging her tennis skills and looking beyond what she does and behave outside the court...its a pity that people who reach the top have to put up with all the negativity

What don't you lie bout her?Other than her height, her low class, her monogrammed shoes and custom made phone, her bragging, her arrogance, her disrespect, her lack of humility, and from a ghetto. In spite of this surelyshe's not responsible for her fathers' mentality.Did'nt you notice her nails, thier like talons.Surprised you did'nt look at her hair, there's two horns growing up there. Her pointy teeth and forked tongue.Next time you see her,pay more attention. You're missing too much.Did you know she does'nt have a belly button?

the media plays her up since she is young, hot, and a great player. only 2 women on tour can beat her. henin-harden and muresmo. and w/ her great looks and tennis skills she can show off. i dont think the whole getto thing bothers her since she could get counsoling. and they live in a mansion now.
