Camels has a remarkable endurance in the dessert because they can store water in their body for a long period of time. They are used not only for transportation but also to ferry back and forth goods and commodities needed by the nomads . The previous two answers would have been ok 100 years ago. Today the answer is for meat. I work in Saudi Arabia and there they raise the beasts purely for their meat which is considered a delicasy. For instance if you knock down a camel with your vehicle no matter whois at fault you have the pay the bedou $12,500 in compensation as that is considered the going rate for you average one. Some racing camels fetch up to a couple of million dollars here.
