go very careful if in doubt don't mess about call an electrician..
this may help tho
you call it shielded wire.. is that armoured cable? what size is the cable 1.5mm, 2.5mm, 4mm.
if so the armouring needs to be earthed.. using metal clad consumer units is the best option. in the house the circuit for the garage needs to be RCD protected. the current rating of the RCD depends upon the size of the cable..
1.5mm max 10 amp
2.5mm max 16 amp
4 mm max 20 amp
6 mm max 30 amp
what appliances are you going to use in your garage?
also installing new electrical circuits in your house without them being tested by an authorised electrician can lead to problems with your house insurance

In all fairness mate, If you didn,t know about the new Wiring regulations,You shouldn't be tackling this type of installation.!! It seems you know enough to use armoured/shielded cable, but if you haven't the knowledge with regard to the commencement of the circuit....leave well alone for safety sake!.Get a pro in for a safe certified installation!

I assume that you are in the UK?
The installation to the garage falls under Part "p" of the building regulations.
I advise you to get a part "p" registered electrician to carry out your installation.
He/She will have to issue a certificate for the installation and Notify the local authority.

Every year there are 25,000 fires as a result of electrical faults and 2,500 are killed. Don't make it 2,501! Leave well alone.
Get a fully qualified electrician to do the work and leave you with an appropriate certificate.

Sorry, what you are attempting to do is illegal. You have neither the qualifications or experience to do this kind of work. You need a fully qualified electrician.
