I would have to say Brian Dawkins.

Roy Williams gets beat too much in coverage, although he does lay some serious wood once in a while.

If it were just based on physical skills I'd say Sean Taylor... but the best overall is Ed Reed. He really makes the Baltimore secondary tick. Troy Polamalu is in the same class as Reed and Roy Williams. An honorable mention goes to Sean Jones of the Browns who is experiencing a breakout season.

Roy is good, but noy as good as Sean Taylor and Ed Reed. Ed Reed runs the Raven's D and is never out of position, or blows an assingment like Williams. Taylor is not as experienced as Reed but physically he's a beast. His athletic ability makes up for his few miscues he can make.

If you didn't know, Taylor and Reed are from the "U". Miami is basically an NFL factory.

The best safety in pro football is Brian "the Hawk" Dawkins. Man the guy is good. Covers the field like a centerfielder. Fast, with good technique. Is always around the ball, and, loves to put his "hat" on folks. The guy simpy "gets it done".

If you're going to claim he's the best safety in the NFL, don't offer what he does with his teammates in his leisure time, as your proof. And he has 5 picks, which is 1 every other game. He does however get away with a horsecollar tackle or two every game.

John Lynch is certainly one of the hardest hitting...and up until the Broncos played Indy a few weeks back, I would have said he was one of the best. Not so certain on that point now.
