I think it can both a good and bad thing. Sometimes a better qualified candidate can be passed over so that a minority can get in. However, I have known several minorities that have questioned the reason they were hired. Qualifications or color? Would you be comfortable knowing that you were hired because of your color or gender and not based on your credentials?

affirmative action is a decidedly stupid scam brought on by bureaucrats: who are nothing but a bunch of empty suits running around trying hard to NOT make a decision so that their job will stick around longer....affirmative action?...here's a thought...how about a very well educated person of colour getting a very good job, but always thinking in the back of their mind: "did I get this job because of my qualifications?...or did I get this job just because of my skin?" how would you like THAT hanging over your head as you assume the chairmanship of a large corporation?.....think about it, and then decide whether affirmative action is always "a good thing".

Affirmative action is reparations for past discrimination to the black community. It's reparations that aren't accepted as reparations and the black community is constantly asking for more but the other races don't feel we should give up our first born for something we weren't responsible for.

It is a misguided attempt to put everyone on an equal playing field. All it serves is to further alienate one group of people from another. It actually rewards someone for being born a minority or a woman. I think it is horrible and needs to end. One should be judged based on their talent and merit not the color of their skin or their gender.
