OK, I only had one shot of the contraceptive injection on 15th Aug, which was due to run out around the 7th Nov. Was due to go back on the 31 Oct for second, but have decided on trying for a child so didnt. Started light bleeding on 30th Oct and still am now. Im bleeding a little, but sometimes its very faint. Have been having unprotected sex ever sice Aug, but like I said we'd like to start trying for a child. Im not sure what this is. When I started the injection I bleed fairly heavily for 4 weeks before it calmed down, this time it will be 4 weeks on mon. Is it just my body settling? Any suggestions welcome and advice always appreciated.

Sometimes it can take a while for the body to reach normal fertility after having contraception injections. If the protection of the jab only ran out on the 7th of this month, you haven't really given your body time to adjust. When your periods go back to their normal routine, that's usually a good sign that your body is back to its normal levels of fertility. When I came off my jab, it took nearly four months for my body to go back to normal, but then I had the shot 3 times. It's different for everybody.

Hi,
I hope I can help with your question however you may not be very happy with my answer! I started the injection in the summer of 2003 and was on it for a period of around 9 months through which stage I was fine, I had a slight bleed at the beginning then my normal cycle and then no periods at all. I decided to come off the injection for a different reason however from ending the course until about 6 months after I was having bleeds and spotting for a few days more or less every week. I need to have a cervical sweep to elimate the problem, however you may be totally different. I would consult your doctor, as if your trying to conceive you want to make sure your in tip top shape! I am sure you will be fine but get some medical advice and dont put it off like it did! xx good luxk xx

I think your body is just sorting out your own hormones to those that were injected.
From personal experience, I had my first injection in 2001 as I was going travelling and did not want the worry of periods whilst I was away. I bled, albeit, not very much, continually for the first 3 months. Since then I have continued to have the injection and have had no periods at all. I was told it could take up to a year after coming off the injection for my body to get back to normal and to possibly conceive.
See you doctor, but don't worry x

The injection is causing the bleeding. i used it too. Although you only had one shot of it, it will probably still take a bit of time for you to conceive after it. Give it a month or two at least before getting worried.

You have not given your body enough time to normalize after the injection. Give it 6 months before you start to wonder. I know it was only one injection, but there you have it.
Once your cycles are regular again, your chances of conceiving are greatly increased. Once they are regular I would start 'trying' but not before. When you do start trying, remember to chart your ovulation by the Basal Body Temperature method so that you know when the best time to try is. There are PLENTY of sites that will give you information on the BBT method.

You should see your doctor. Folic acid is only beneficial if you have been taking it for a few months before trying for a baby not only a few days.

I thought that the injection harms your reproductive system - don't know if true though.
