What some of the self-appointed enlightened do not realise is that stereotypes do not pop up out of nowhere. They exist for a reason. There are always exceptions but if you take a cross section of a stereotyped group there will be underlying evidence of the stereotyped characteristics.

It's not always the case, but stereotypes do exist for a reason; sometimes properly interpreted and sometimes not. The Americans have a very bizarre set of stereotypes: gay stuck-up Brits, snobby French, etc. have absolutely no basis in reality and are either antiquated or based on their own narrow experience. On the other hand, hoodies driving around in a pimped Peugeot 205 with a beanie hat, heavy bass, and whizzing around Tesco car park at night... not too much of a stretch of the imagination to call that a chav.

Most people apply labels to people and things. Even on a very basic level if you refer to someone by their gender or appearance at all then you are categorising them.
Our language is designed to work like this. Even calling the Queen of England the Queen is applying a gender specific label to her. If we don't have words to distinguish and old fat man from a baby girl, or a man dressed as Dracula from one wearing just a golden thong then we have to know the personal name of everyone in the nation. Even my mate "Big" Dave has a label on his name as he is tall.
When I walk through a big city people make "Doctor Who" comments just because I wear a long tatty coat, a wide brimmed hat and a 12 feet long striped scarf. To be honest I don't mind. (Also I love that show and always have.) EXTERMINATE! lol.
Anyway unless you establish a new language without any words to allow people to be stereotyped so no "hippy" or "goth" or "old" or "fat" or "Slavic" or even "he" or "she" then people will still categorise you, and me and all of us. This is how language works.

You think you have problems, us old 'uns have this problem all the time. Especially by young people who stereotype us as imbeciles and not capable of modern thoughts.

Stereotypical..... is part of British Culture.

If you don't like it conform laddie....only joking. You stay true to yourself as long as youR not harming anyone what the hell.

After all it is only a phase your going through. You'll get old and then guess what you will be stereotyped until the day you die.

YesI know! Life's a ***** and then you die..have a nice day.

This is somewhat confusing sometimes, so bare with my explanation. All humans create categories to organize all their mental thoughts. We do it to help us perceive the world around us in a regulated manner. Otherwise we'd go insane from confusion.

EVERYONE stereotypes. It's the relevant conditioning brought about by social exposure. Our minds are constantly making generalizations. Both bad and good (which in themselves are relative).

It is how we REACT to these generalizations that cross our thoughts, that makes us who we are. Humans are subjective creatures who must force themselves to react in an objective manner. Only those who are strong enough mentally can defeat their innate subjective nature.

Have a good day.

People do what other people do, stereotype! They put a label on anything and everything, we call religious people after their religions! It is not an insult to call someone a Muslim if he is! I am labelled as a Roman Catholic. And other things as well.

I could wax poetic, but I feel a simple answer to your question is more fitting: Some people are just too lazy to take the time to get to know other people and skip straight to judging them. That's really as simple as it gets! If you're being yourself, take pride in that and let the rest be the rest; it's not your loss.

People who label people or themselves are very simple people who like to keep the world..simple. They'd rather not take the time to get to know people and decide to label them instead. You will just have to show them that you don't fit into a label. Speak up and they will hear you.

People stereotype because it's neat, tidy, and simple, because it requires little thought, because it confirms their personal prejudices, and most importantly, because it doesn't require them to get to know the person in question as an individual.

Stereotyping can save your life. Don't believe me?

A white woman who stereotypes against others won't go to Ganton because of the "minorites" there. If she did, there's a good chance something really bad would happen to her (rape, getting stabbed, shot, etc).

We are all individual, but people want to label, or steriotype, maybe just to fit you into a place in their own steriotypical minds...
