I just started wrestling this year as a sophomore. I have done no sports at all before this. We've been practicing for 2 weeks, but I have only gotten 2 days due to paperwork problems. I have my first match on December 5. Did anybody else wrestle in high school, if so, how was your first match.

Everybody is nervous about first sport notority. (Since wrestling is mostly individual, all eyes are on you --- the stands, your teammates and your coach). DON"T WORRY ABOUT THEM !!! Listen to your coach for advise before and during the match. He may be able to do something to help settle down the nerves. All I can tell you is get a good night's sleep the two days before the match and the night before. Make sure you eat well (bananas help) to keep up your energy level. Take along some people for support, your parents, friends and family members. The thing to remember is go in with a clear head and the bugs will work themselves out quickly. Remember, it could be your opponent's first match, as well !!! But if it isn't, the advantage is he has not seen you before for him to figure out your strategy, or your strengths and weaknesses. You didn't say where you are wrestling or your weight class. In any case, HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK AT YOUR FIRST MATCH AND DURING THE SEASON !!! Give us an update on how it went.
