If you really step back and take a look around the majority of people seem to be trying to keep up with the jones's by buying things for ego and to get attention....
Behind closed doors I bet most people are financial disasters, living paycheck to paycheck....etc
Is this you....? I once was caught up in this....!
Look around....its still going on....the houses...the cars...the clothes...the gadgets.....the toys....

well you need to define what cool means to you. I guess you used the wrong word. I think what you meant to ask is why materialism the heart of a superficial existance. I can say that you have a good point because it is sad that peope still relate cool with materialism. Well I can tell you that I am cool even without those objects. Change your set of mind and your figure it out

whats the point of saving money, spend it now while you're young. whether you like it or not, a large part of the way people see you is from the material things you have, because the things you have reflect on your personality. but don't be stupid, buy only what you can afford.

this must be a age related question because at 35- I no longer want to be "cool" - I just want to get and go to work and come home and sleep- repeat daily for 5-6 days then rest for 1-2 and repeat again.
no escape just life....

good point , cost of being cool these days is being emotionally repressed to show how togeather you are.
and basically being a weak minded follower cos they gotta have what everyone else has!!
