There is plenty to do in San Francisco, especially during the holiday season. There are hundreds of places to shop (Union Square is probably the most popular shopping area, but also quite expensive). There are fun places along Fisherman's wharf like the wax museum and Ripley's Believe it or not. If you like art museums, the city has a big variety. There's The Legion of Honor, SF Modern Art Museum, The Asian Art Museum, etc. If the weather in decent, there are several beautiful beaches. Embarcadero Center has an outdoor iceskating rink throughout winter, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants near there. No matter what you decide to see or do, I'd advise taking the bus or subway. Driving in the city is difficult and parking is nearly impossible unless you pay a fortune to park in a city garage. The one's near the wharf are close to $30 to park your car for just a short time. Buses and Muni subway are only around $1.25 roundtrip. Cable cars are nice too, but they can be overcrowded and more expensive (around $5.00 a ride).

SanFrancisco is where I went over this past summer and there is SO much to do there. Below are some of them:
* Giradelli Square is loaded with chocolate. The store is very nice and you will love it.
*Pier 39 is awesome. It is mostly stores and restuarants. I reccomend Bubba Gumps. Its at the end, sorta. The wait is not very long and the food is above average.
*If you are in the downtown area, like by Buena Vista Gardens, go to moes for lunch. It's relativley cheap and it is the best burger!!
*China Town= very good bargains. It is nice to walk up and down on the streets and there are a ton of shops with cool nicknaks and knock off purses. The restaurants are good too.
* Although it is not the best thing, you HAVE to go see the Golden Gate Bridge. It is 5.00 to ride over, but how can you be there and not go?
*If you want something fun to do, you can go to six Flags marine world.
*Go to the grape vineyards. You can drink out of the barrels and pick grapes!!
* The weather is usually like 50-70 degrees. I would bring a light jacket for the evenings.
*Alcatraz Island is definitly worth visiting. It is a 10 minute ferry ride from pier 39 and the tour is about an hour and a half to two hours. It is the old prison located off the coast of the SanFran Bay. Very cool and yet, it sent some chills up my spine.
Good chinese restuarant= house of nanking

San Francisco is the two a city and a county. The state is subdivided into administrative areas called counties. interior of those counties could be integrated entities prevalent as cities. In San Francisco's case, the city and county are one and the comparable.

There are lots of things to do in San Francisco that other people have posted. But, one of my favorite things to do when my wife and I have visitors to the City is to take them to Cityscape Bar & Restaurnt on the 47th floor of the Hilton. You get a 360 degree view of the City and of course the best time to go is sunset. The restaurant can be price but to sit in the lounge and enjoy the view from above is priceless. Enjoy.

All that other stuff is great for idiot tourists that everyone in this town hates. You want to really see this city? Get drunk in a bar in North Beach during the daytime and see where the city takes you. That's the way to see this place. I recommend Gino and Carlo, Columbus and Green.
Or you could just get on a tour bus like everyone else....but don't be surprised if you get a swift knee to the groin from someone like me if you get in my way whilst walking down the street...

Union Square,Ghiradelli Square, Pier 39, Fisherman's wharf(last three all within walking distance of each other). The boat tours are pretty cool. Be prepared for alot of street people begging for spare change(not much fun but IGNORE them). Have fun!!!
