The tidal forces between the Earth and the Moon slowed the Moon's rotation until it became locked with its orbit around the Earth. The Moon therefore always keeps the same side of its surface facing the Earth. As the Moon orbits the Earth, the entire half facing the sun is illuminated, but the amount of this lighted half that we can see changes. Thus the Moon seems to change shape or phase. The far side of the Moon is lighted part of the time and dark part of the time as well; hence it is incorrect to refer to it as the "dark side of the Moon" (sorry, Pink Floyd).

If we ponder deep, we might realize there's no dark side of our moon. Why? We know that only 1 side of the moon always face us. Thus we assume the other side must be dark. But we don't realize that the other side of the moon also receives sun light. So how can we say the other side is always dark?

The same thing that is on the "light" side-it is the same moon-the light or dark has to do with where we (earth) are,in relation to the sun and moon,as we orbit the solar system.A good example is how it is night time here, but may be daytime in another state,or country. The moon is responsible for tides, water, etc.

The side that we do see is the more interesting side. the craters that we see are huge and wide. while the craters on the dark side of the moon are much smaller and not as spectcular to look at , like the side we usually see.

There is just as much moon as on the bright side. It's all about the same, we just don't see it from Earth. (Silly question)
