You can do it, but it's time-consuming: cut a patch piece out of an obscure corner of a closet, being careful to cut along the weave, pulling back the fibers. Use a very, very sharp utility knife. Cut the exact same size out at the damaged area. Use carpet mending tape (the non-heat kind, but very sticky stuff), and carefully tuck it under the existing carpet, such that the patch will stick to it. Press down firmly, then trim the edge of the patch fibers to match the surrounding carpet. Now take that ugly burned carpet and stick it in that closet. It's not a rush job!

You should cut a small piece out and take it with you to carpet suppliers and just ask them for a small piece and get some carpet joining tape. The carpet joining tape goes underneath the joints. Cut out a square peace of the sample carpet and place it on top of the hole in your carpet. Then you use a Stanley knife to cut against that sample. Remove the carpet piece and stick the joining tape facing up along the edges of the hole in the carpet. Then you stick the new piece in the hole and brush around the edges with a hard brush.
NOTE: Make sure the grain or lines of the carpet mach.

I'm afraid thats it...sorry. My suggestion is as follows IF you have a spare piece of carpet.
Cut a square out the carpet and rplace with the spare piece of carpet. Sew the pieces together and also use a little Copydex (fabric glue) to halp it adhere and stay down. Be careful with the Copydex as this can dry a brown colour, so use underneath where it cant be seen.

Can you trim a piece of the carpet from another section which is hidden by something? Then cut out the burnt part and glue in the new bit.

Sorry... you can't fix this. You could try washing the carpet to buff it up a bit but when plastic melts it makes it very difficult to repair.
Try moving a couch over it.
Good luck.

The only thing you can do is cut out the damaged piece and replace it with a patch, if you have a Matt or a left over piece, or if your sneaky take a piece from under a wardrobe or something.

Why don't you just be honest and tell your landlord. The carpet may be covered by his insurance.

Do you have insurance? If you do, they'll either get it fixed for you or give you a new carpet.
