Your son does not need water until he starts eating solid foods at 6 months. Giving water to a newborn can be dangerous, as it can create an electrolyte imbalance and cause seizures, even death. The only exception is if your baby is sick and your doctor recommends it. Here are some links:

I started offering my daughter water when she was 4 months old. Her doctor recommended it because she was wanting to nurse all the time(she refused to take a pacifier). The doctor said that it needed to room temperature and to buy either the nursery water at Walmart or boil tap water and only put 2 ounces in the bottle. Please confer with your pediatrician before giving your son water, though. They will be able to advise you better then the answers here on Yahoo!, especially since your son is still so young. Congratulations!

No, wait until you see your Dr. He is much too young for water. The formula will provide him hydration. His belly is tiny and needs to be filled with food not water. If you don't want to wait until 12/13 just call and ask one of his nurses.

infants used to drink water precise from the beginning up yet now medical doctors say 6 months, and comparable with juice. i don't understand the way it somewhat is undesirable because of the fact the formula has water in it yet i understand somebody that gave the 5 month previous toddler water interior the nice and comfortable summer season and for constipation too and had to hurry to known practitioner the subsequent day. toddler have been given not greater bottled water till 6 months because of the fact the known practitioner warned kidney injury. each thing is effective nonetheless.

You should give your son water to drink, it will help to clean the stain stuck on his tongue and at the same time let him get used to the taste of the plain water. If you don't let him drink now, he might reject it the next time you give him. I let my baby drink water when she was born only a few days...My mom told me baby should drink some water...
