NOT "typewriter" (though if it DID qualify, OTHER 10-letter words tie it).
Probably the longest verifiable word is the 12- letter "teetertotter" (though it is often spelled with a hyphen)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longest_word_in_English#Words_with_certain_characteristics_of_notable_length
As for other long ones:
The TEN-letter "typewriter" is, of course, a classic. But there's also: "perpetuity", "proprietor" and "repertoire".
Also, these rarer words have been suggested:
pepperroot, pepperwort, pewterwort, pirouetter, prerequire, pretorture, repetitory, tetterwort
And for LONGER ones-- if you can find them!-- try also:
11 letters: rupturewort (this one IS real!)
12 letters: proterotype, pituitotrope, uropyoureter

Note that all of these use the TOP alphabetic row of the typewriter. This is scarcely surprising, since that row includes ALL the vowels except "a", as well as the very common letters t, r and p.

The following "longest" words can be typed using only the left-hand side of the keyboard:
* Aftercataracts
* Tesseradecades
* Tetrastearates
The longest word that can be typed with the right-hand side of the keyboard is:
* Johnny-jump-up
The longest word typeable on the top row is, of course:
* Typewriter
On the middle row:
* Shakalshas
And on the bottom row, there's only one:
* Zzz

The longest word is rupturewort in the top row
or repeating once all the letters in the top row it will make the word wipeout.

There are a minimum of two 11-letter words, the two uncommon: proterotype and rupturewort. between countless 10 letter words, there are perpetuity, proprietor, repertoire and, fittingly, typewriter.
