Right now i have an '86 El Camino w/ a torquey 350 mated to a TH350 trans in it. But, the rear end is stock, probably 2.86 gears or something, and it shows. I was wondering, what other rear ends from other GM cars/trucks will fit it? I would like to get a 3.73 posi from a Suburban or something if i could...what else fits? thanks.

The Elcamino has a 10 bolt rear end and is coil sprung. It is the same as a Malibu of those years. While you could convert a truck 12 bolt to fit, it is wider than the Camino. Measure from axle flange to axle flange and look for something out of an earlier modle GM car that may have used a 12 bolt. Chevelle/ Camino, Camaro. Your easiest route and maybe cheapest in the long run, would be aftermarket gears and "posi" unit. Check Jegs or Summit's web site.

i dont know to much about gms but i know the suburans were leaf sping in the rear, to tell the rear of one count the pan bolts it will be like a 10 or 12 bolt and thats what they call them. to tell the gear ratio either look at the tag or pull pan and do the math i think they way its done is count the pinion and the ring gear teath, then divide the small number by the big number
